Mida fell asleep halfway through her story.

Her tiny hand was still clutching the sleeve of my hoodie, her breathing already slow and deep against the pillow.

I smiled down at her.
"You didn't even hear the ending," I whispered softly.

She didn't move.

Of course she didn't.

I carefully slid my sleeve out of her grip and pulled the blanket up to her chin. For a moment, I stayed there watching her sleep.

This six-year-old have a way of making the world feel quieter and simpler.

My chest tightened a little when I brushed a curl away from her forehead.

"You drool when you sleep," I informed her seriously.

She snored in response.
"Exactly."

I leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her temple before turning off the lamp beside her bed.

The hallway felt cooler when I stepped out.

Quiet.

The house finally settling into that late-night calm where every little sound seemed louder than usual.

My footsteps were soft against the floor as I walked to my room.
I closed the door gently behind me and leaned back against it for a second.

Today had been... a lot.
Not in a bad way.
Just different from the usual.

My mind replayed little pieces from earlier at school.

The way Olivia had looked at me during photography.

The stupid notes we slid across the table.

My lips twitched.

I pushed away from the door and walked toward my bed, dropping my hoodie on the chair.

My phone lit up on the nightstand just as I sat down.

A message.

My heart did that annoying thing again.

I already knew who it was before I even looked.

I picked up the phone.

The message sat there like it had been waiting patiently for me.
