POV:ENID
I knocked.
The door opened almost immediately.
Fatima stood there in a hoodie and shorts, phone in hand, eyebrows lifting in surprise.
"Enid?"
Before Fatima could say anything else, I rushed past her into the big living room I've not been in for weeks.
"I messed up," I blurted out. "I think I messed up really bad."
Fatima blinked, then closed the door calmly. "Okay. First of all, hi. Second of all, you look like you're about to pass out."
"I asked her out," I said.
Fatima froze.
"You- what?"
"I asked Olivia out," I repeated, pacing the living room now. "On a date. I didn't plan it. I didn't rehearse it. I just- it came out. And she was crying, Tima. She was crying."
Fatima's mouth slowly fell open.
"You asked Olivia Grayson?"
I stopped pacing. "Yes."
There was a beat of silence.
Then Fatima screamed.
"ENID."
She grabbed my shoulders. "Do you understand how insane that is? Do you understand how big that is?"
"I know!" I said, my voice cracking. "That's why I'm here. I panicked. I didn't even think. I just- I meant it. I really meant it."
Fatima searched her face carefully now, softer. "You wanted to."
I nodded. "I don't want to keep pretending we're just... whatever this is. I don't want to keep running away from her or from myself."
I swallowed. "I'm tired."
Fatima exhaled slowly, then pulled me into a hug. "I'm proud of you babes."
I laugh weakly into Fatima's shoulder. "I feel like throwing up."
"That's normal," Fatima said. "Especially when you do something terrifying and right."
We pulled apart, sitting on the couch.
"So," Fatima said casually, like I hadn't just dropped a bomb. "Did she say yes?"
I nodded my head again. "She did."
Tima's eyes softened. "God. She's been miserable without you."
I looked up. "You've seen her?"
"Mia has," Fatima corrected. "And before you ask-yes, Mia and I are good now."
I froze. "She's not mad at you anymore?"
Fatima shook her head. "She was hurt, yes. But she forgives me."
My shoulders sagged in relief.
I'm so happy for my best friend.
"And," Fatima continued, smiling now, "we're going on a date this evening."
I blinked. "Today?"
