POV: OLIVIA

I woke up before my alarm and didn’t even question it.

For once, my brain wasn’t dragging me out of sleep. It was already awake. Already replaying.

The date.

Not the whole thing. Just pieces. The way Enid smiled when she thought I wasn’t looking. The way she laughed when I pretended not to be scared. The way she squeezed my hand like she didn’t want to let go first.

I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling.

"Get a grip," I muttered to nobody but myself.

I didn’t.

I reached for my phone, mostly out of habit. There where messages from the group chat but non from her. I opened our chat anyway. Scrolled just enough to see her name.

I smiled. Immediately annoyed at myself.

"This is so embarrassing," I told the empty room.

Still smiling.

I sat up and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My uniform was draped over my chair — pants, white button-down, blazer hanging neatly behind it.

I stood there for a second.

Why am I nervous to go to school? We already went on the date.

Why am I even nervous at all?!

I pulled on the pants first. Adjusted the waistband. Tugged them down. Then back up. I tucked in my shirt carefully, too carefully, then redid it because it looked too careful.

"Relax," I muttered.

I brushed my hair back and tied it into a ponytail. Took it out. Did it again.

I paused halfway through tying my hair and caught my reflection.

It was stupid, honestly.

But I remembered the way Enid looked at me last night.

Not just my face but my hair also.

She couldn’t stop staring when I tied it up. Like it personally offended her that it looked good. Like she was trying not to look and failing miserably.

I smirked at myself in the mirror.

She always does that.

Even before the date. Every time I actually did my hair instead of just combing it and leaving it down, she’d stare longer. Like she thought I wouldn’t notice.

I always noticed.

I don’t even do this every day. Only when I’m in the mood. Or bored. Or feeling like it.

But if the brunette likes it?

Then fuck it.

I’ll do my hair every God-damn day.
