POV: ENID

Damon, the Grayson's driver, had dropped me at Fatima’s house after lunch, but my brain still hadn’t caught up with everything that had happened. The Graysons weren’t anything like I thought they’d be.

I mean, they were Olivia’s family. And Olivia herself could be cocky, dramatic, larger than life. But her moms? They were warm, loud, and embarrassingly good at teasing their daughter.

The whole ride home, I kept thinking about the way they’d smiled at me. About how Emma had winked when she asked, "So, Enid, how exactly did you manage to win over our Olivia?" And how Olivia was smiling smugly waiting for me to answer.

It wasn’t just that they’d been nice to me. It was the way it felt… easy. Like I belonged at their table. Like I wasn’t some outsider.

I was still lost in my thoughts when Fatima threw herself across her bed with a dramatic sigh. "Okay. Spill. How was it?"

I sank into her desk chair, hugging my arms around myself. "It was fine."

Her head popped up immediately. "Fine? That’s all you’ve got?"

I shrugged, trying to play it cool, but I could feel my cheeks heating. "Her moms were… really sweet."

Fatima grinned like a cat that’d caught a mouse. "Sweet? They adored you. I bet they’re already planning family vacations with you in them."

"Stop," I groaned, hiding my face in my hands.

She laughed. "I’m serious, Enid. You do realize you’re the first person Olivia has ever taken home, right? That means something."

Her words made my chest flutter in a way I didn’t want to admit. Because she was right. Olivia could’ve brought anyone home before me. But she hadn’t.

That night, long after Fatima had gone to bed, I lay awake, staring at the ceiling. My phone buzzed against my pillow, and my heart jumped when I saw her name.

Grayson😒
The Grayson household will not shut up about you. Congratulations, you’re officially the star of today's family lunch.

Enid
Stop exaggerating.

Grayson😒
I’m serious. My mom literally asked me what I did to deserve you. Do you know how humiliating that is?

Enid

Grayson 😒
Anyway, since you’re basically their new favorite child, want to hang out tomorrow? Nothing serious

Enid
Hang out?

Grayson😒
Relax. There’s this food truck festival. Low-key. No pressure.

I stared at the message until my heart thudded painfully. Food truck festival. Casual words. But my brain latched onto the one thing that mattered: she wanted to see me. Just me.

Enid

Grayson😒
Unless you’re scared to be seen with me outside of school, which… understandable. I am very distracting.

Enid
You’re impossible.

Grayson😒
And yet you’re still texting me back.
