I pulled my knees into my chest while staring at the small waves in the ocean trying my best to listen to my little brother loak rant.

"Bro dad always favors neteyam, I'm not some perfect little warrior like him so dad hates me"

I sighed and turned to face him, "baby brother, dad loves you so much he's just trying to protect you" I reassured him. Loaks eyes were glued onto a white and blue seashell buried in the sand. "Why does he always ground me and yell at me? He treats me like a stranger and not a son" he looked at me as his beaded braids swayed in front of his eyes.

I felt so bad because our dad has been extremely rough on him, I placed a hand onto his cold blue shoulder before saying "he might just be scared? Just talk to him about it okay?"

Loak shrugged my hand off of his shoulder and turned to face the ocean again.

We sat in silence for a few minutes until we heard a bunch of yelling. I looked over my shoulder and seen all of the metikyina people shouting and doing their traditional war cries. I turned my head and made eye contact with my brother for a split second before standing up and making my way over there.

Loak sped up until he was in front of me, he pushed people gently to the side making way for us to get to our family. I looked around until my eyes landed on aonung. His eyes were filled with so much anger, he stuck his tongue out and hit his chest aggressively.

Suddenly my dad stepped into the center of everyone "you gotta understand how the sky people think, they don't care about the great balance!" He explained

A great warrior of the metikyina looked around and shouted "we don't answer to sky people!" The crowd began to get riled up again. My eyes shifted over to tsireya, she was sobbing while staring at her parents.

"Listen to him!" Neteyam told everyone while holding this weird sharp device in his left hand. I looked back to my dad as he continued to speak. "This is only the beginning the sky people won't stop" he tried explaining to them.

I let out a shaky breath before stepping out into the center "listen you all need to tell your tulkun to leave and go far away from here!" I screamed feeling my blood boiling from how they disregarded my dad's warnings.

Ronal placed a hand on her belly and stepped closer to me "leave? You live among us and you learn nothing!" She screamed while pointing a finger at me. A great warrior of the clan lifted up his spear "we will fight to protect our brothers and sisters!" He yelled before banging on his chest.

I turned around and looked at my mom who was clearly unamused. I hissed loudly throwing a few of the villagers off but I didn't care. I heard my dad speaking again but his voice was drowned out by the loud war cries.

I spun around quickly and stared at aonung who was by a freakishly terrifying roxto. He was usually so sweet but this side of him seemed so ruthless. Aonung stared at me with no emotion it kind of made my heart ache. How could he not tell the people to listen to my dad?

I was pulled from my thoughts when I heard my dad say "saving their lives that's all that matters right? Saving your family.." everyone quieted down and looked at each other.

From the corner of my eye I saw Loak slipping away from the crowd. I knew what that skawng was going to do and I'm not going to let him do anymore dumbass shit, so I nudged neteyam and nodded my head towards Loak.

Tonowaris deep voice boomed through the crowd "tell the tulkun, go"

Without another second everyone made yipping noises as they dived into the water. Neteyam and I took off running to go make sure Loak wasn't going to payakan.
