My legs burned from how desperately I ran to find roxto before aonung could. My lungs were on literal fire from my short quick breaths. I stopped running and placed my hands on my knees, the sounds of me gasping for air soon morphed into sounds of creatures that resided here in the small forest like area on the island.

My ear twitched at the sound of leaves rustling, my hand moved closer towards my knife as I sensed a presence inching closer to me. Just as I heard a twig snap from behind me I grabbed my knife and quickly spun around getting ready to face who, or whatever was near me. My face tightened as I hissed to seem intimidating. When I seen it was roxto in front of me I lowered my knife immediately.

"Roxto?" I breathed out not knowing if this was actually him or his spirit. His icy eyes moved all over my face, "are you ok Elei? Just breath okay" his words scurried out of his mouth, he then stepped closer to me and placed his hands on my cheeks, "I thought he killed you roxto I was so scared" my vision blurred from the tears that steadily filled my eyes.

His lips parted allowing his warm breath to brush against mine, "who did you think killed me?" He asked, I watched as he looked around frantically. I placed my hand on top of his, brushing my thumb across his rough skin, "thank you great mother, thank you!" I shouted hoarsely as my tears streamed down my face. Roxto wiped my eyes before placing his forehead on mine "Elei, Elei who did you think killed me?" He eagerly asked.

I felt his body shaking from what I assumed to be fear. "Aonung..he wants to kill you because we have been together and um" I trailed off not knowing how to tell him about the entire situation just yet. I felt his forehead leave mine, "how does he know we have been seeing each other?" His voice trembled slightly, I opened my eyes and seen his chest rising and falling at a concerning rate, "he told me I will be the clans next tsahik and I- I told him that I needed to tell you because I've been seeing you" my lip quivered the moment I seen a disappointed look wash over his face.

"So you're with him again Elei? Huh? Is that what you're saying" his thick accent peaked at this point in the conversation. My throat went dry with every pulse my heart made, "yes roxto..I'm with him" I whispered. He closed his eyes and turned away from me. "Please be understanding roxto, he's my mate. This was bound to happen" I grabbed his arm but gasped when he yanked it away from me. "You knew you were going to get back with him yet you still lay with me!" He raised his voice at me. My ears lowered along with my tail, "I'm sorry" was the only thing I could say.

Roxtos ears twitched slightly while staring at me with glossy eyes, "do you even love me Elei?" His voice cracked a bit. I wrapped my arms around myself for comfort, "I love you more than life itself skawng" I giggled before sniffling. He shot me a half smile while stepping closer to me, "let's be together Elei, I can build us a new Marui over here so you can feel more at home. We can even expand our family" he rambled on and on until I placed my index finger against his lips.

"No roxto we can't?" My palms grew sweaty from how tense I was, "yes we can Elei? You deserve to be happy and I know it's not with him" he tilted his head to the side, my eyes moved to his jaw that was clenched tightly. "Don't you get it roxto? You're the other man, aonung is my mate it fucking hurts when I'm not with him you don't get it!" I screamed before dropping to my knees and sobbing loudly.

I rested my head on the sandy ground ignoring the few bits that got into my mouth, "we have only been here for a few weeks and he's already changed you. Goodbye Elei" roxto sneered. I slowly looked up and watched as he walked away from me. Something in my soul told me to follow him, so I did.

"Roxto wait!" I shouted while moving the large leaves out of the way

"Roxto wait!" I shouted while moving the large leaves out of the way. "Elei go with him, I just need space to think!" He sounded frustrated.

I watched as his body was snatched out of my sight, "roxto!" I screamed fearing for his life. I ran as fast as I could trying my best to ignore the wheezing sounds that I made, "great mother no no not him please" I muttered under my breath trying to find him. Once I laid eyes on him my heart dropped, "aonung stop it! If you hurt him I will not be with you" I let out a high pitch hiss at the sight of aonung holding a knife against roxtos neck.

Aonungs eyes were darker than the ocean beyond the reef, "if you do as little as breathe near my woman, I will rip every single one of your limbs off" Aonung growled before getting off of roxto. I placed a hand over my mouth to muffle my sobs. I tried to go check on roxto but aonung grabbed my wrist and began pulling me away from him, "aonung is he okay? Is he breathing still?" I asked trying to pull myself together.

Aonung tossed his head back and groaned "I did not harm him, now enough about roxto"

After what seemed like hours we made it back to the village, we were on our way to get na'tey from his lessons but Ronal told us to speak with her at once.

We walked into her marui and sat down around the fire to keep warm due to the seasonal change causing the island to be colder than usual. "At eclipse the entire village will go to the cove of ancestors to watch your tsahik ceremony" Ronal informed me before taking a sip of of fresh water.

I played with the beads at the tip of my braid before responding, "what will I have to do? I mean I've never done a spiritual ceremony before" I blurted out as the nerves got to me. Ronal narrowed her eyes at me "if you are chosen by eywa then you will know what to do, we will see when we are there. Now we must prepare"
