Episode One, Part 4:
RenascenceThe two Sovereigns had had a tough time trying to follow their prey around the forest, struggling to maintain sight of them through the many treacherous slopes and shrubbery that got in their way, but they hadn't lost them.
"Myles..." Izzy said, seemingly out of nowhere.
"Hmm?" Harlow mumbled questioningly.
"I remember his name; it's Myles. He's a forager."
They both narrowed their attention his way, still trying to figure out his motive. "But the other guy," she continued. "I don't recognize him in the slightest, and that could be all there is to it, but I don't know... And why are they outside of camp?" She asked. "I mean, I know we don't have any fences up, but people are still supposed to record when they leave and what for."
"Yeah, and people are supposed to have a guard with them if they leave camp," Harlow added. "I'd recognize all of the guards at Basilisk, and the guy with Myles definitely isn't one."
"So... If Myles came alone, then that can only mean that his company isn't part of Basilisk."
Harlow let out a shaky breath, not wanting to believe what was starting to look like the most plausible explanation. "When we get back to camp, we need to check the records to see who left"
Izzy nodded, ready to try and piece together another possible answer when her radio buzzed in her pocket and a static-sick voice sounded their presence.
She hurried to cover the device and conceal the noise meanwhile, Harlow held onto her and pulled her down, not wanting to risk being seen.
"It's not working," Izzy mumbled, struggling to lower the volume of the radio or get it to respond to any of the buttons she was pressing. Staying low, Izzy started to move away from the direction of Myles, only slowing her pace once she knew they were far enough away.
The voice on the other end was starting to clear up, and Izzy could now recognize the voice of her father speaking to her through the radio.
"Izzy, can you hear me? Are you with Harlow? Are you okay-"
"Dad?"
Kodiak let out a breath of relief and had to take a moment to catch his breath before he replied. "Are you with Harlow?"
"Yes," Izzy answered, sharing a cautious glance with her friend. Why was her dad so worried?
"Are you safe?"
"Yes, Dad, we're fine. What's wrong? Has something happened?"
"River, Bas, and I have all tried radioing you both multiple times, but we didn't get any response. We thought you were hurt. Eden said you were on a run, but you usually would have been back already."
"We got...distracted," Izzy said, not wanting to say anything else.
"Our radios haven't gone off," Harlow stated. "We both have them with us, and nothing's come through."
"Where are you guys? Did you go far? If you're near the DeadLands, that would explain the reception."
"No, we're nowhere near the DeadLands," Harlow said. "We're pretty close to the Bunker."
"Yours, or Atlantis bunker?"
"Mine," Harlow said.
"Okay," Kodiak said, letting out another long-held breath. "It's probably a good idea if you head back to camp, anyway, seeing as a few of us were starting to get panicked. Your mom, especially."
