Episode Seven, Part 5:
The Garden of EdenIzzy pinned down the multiple dodges of stray bullets and lunging attackers she had managed to avoid to the adrenaline in her system. Even on her best days of training, she was sure she would have gotten tagged by one of the others or marked by one of the paint guns from the former Sovereigns, but not today. Not when, as far as she knew, Eden's life and her father's life was on the line.
"Hey, there you are!" Izzy flinched at the sound of someone's voice right behind her and as she pushed whoever it was to the ground, she raised up her blade in her hand, ready to defend herself.
"It's okay, it just me," Harlow said, one hand held up in surrender hoping to halt all of her instincts to attack.
"Harlow," Izzy muttered, reaching down and pulling him to his feet. She began to brush all the dirt off of him. "I'm so sorry-"
"It's okay. I'm alright," he assured her, setting a hand on her to try and calm her, but he could see it had very little effect. Izzy's mind was racing and Harlow could tell just by the slight widening of her eyes and the hurried breaths she drew in every few moments.
"Did you hear?"
"Elijah's radio call?" Harlow clarified.
Izzy nodded. "I can't get through to them; to anyone, even you. New Riders have turned the radio tower off. That makes me think they caught Elijah sending a message to us."
"The call came from Eden's radio," Harlow said, sounding more worried than he usually let on, even to Izzy. "I'm scared they got her."
Izzy sighed, seeming to forget about everything around them. "I know. And I'm worried they have my dad, too."
Harlow frowned, suddenly remembering why they had split up in the first place. "You still haven't found him?"
Izzy shook her head, reluctant to say more. All that would come out was her untameable, relentless fear that something had happened to him; something that couldn't be undone; something she couldn't save him from.
"Come on," Harlow said, dropping his hand down until it reached hers, and he held on firmly. "Let's go find them."
Izzy nodded and gratefully followed Harlow's lead. His direction and watchful eye of their surroundings gave her the few moments she needed to clear her head and try and resolve what fears she could on her own.
Her Mom and sisters were safe in the Bunker; Ares was protected at camp which was far enough away from the battlefield that he wasn't considered at risk; Sol was on the lookout for Kodiak; Harlow was safe and his hand was warm in hers.
"Bas..."
"Hmm?" Izzy wasn't sure if she had heard all that he said, or if there was some context she was missing.
"There's Bas," Harlow said, letting go of Izzy's hand as he focused his eyes on his brother, trying to assess the situation from where he stood. "I-I think he needs help..."
"Go," Izzy said, gesturing for him to head over. "I'll go find the girls."
"Are you sure? You'll be okay?"
Izzy nodded, quickly becoming insistent. "He's your brother," she said. "Once you guys are safe, meet me at The Garden of Eden. Grab whoever you can: Wynn, Dreea, any guards."
Harlow let out a heavy breath and already began stepping backwards. Izzy wasn't sure if it was simply hesitation that she could see in him, or guilt for leaving her on her own, but she was glad when he caved and picked up his pace towards Bas. She was proud.
