Episode Three, Part 5:
Way Down We Go"Hold up. I hear someone," Izzy said, feeling Veer stop right on her tail, obedient as always. Both girls armed themselves and glanced in opposite directions, scanning around to identify their company.
"There," Izzy said, pointing through the trees and then, before Veer could land eyes on them yelled, "Harlow, Eden!"
She hurried ahead to join the other two Sovereigns, and Veer followed until all four were together again.
Eden and Harlow were relieved to see them, but Harlow's ease only lasted for a moment. He frowned as he observed Izzy - who was too caught up in listening to what Eden was saying to notice his staring - and could tell by the raise of her shoulders alone how tense she was feeling.
"Izzy," he murmured quietly, nudging her hand at her side with his own. "What's happened?"
At his question, Eden stopped talking and looked to the Noble for an answer, completely invested in what she had yet to say.
Izzy sighed, trying to collect her thoughts and get them out in a way that wasn't even a fraction of how chaotic her mind was; it was harder than she'd imagined.
"We had some visitors..."
"At Basilisk?" Eden was on edge.
Veer shook her head. "We were out near the DeadLands. There must have been four of five of the others. I got our siblings to hide in the jeep, but I couldn't get Atlas inside in time; Izzy and Bas had to come out to help."
"Is everyone okay?" Harlow asked.
"Story's a little uneasy, but I left her with Mom and Dad," Izzy said, running her hand up and down her arm, overwhelmingly conscious of her guilt at not being at her sister's side. Taking some of the weight off from her, Harlow set his hand on Izzy's back, knowing his constant reminder of his presence was doing more than she could ever say.
"What about you guys?" Veer asked, reaching out and wiping away what appeared to be blood on Eden's temple. "You got in a fight, didn't you?"
Harlow nodded. "One of them took us on about ten minutes ago."
"Did they get away?" Veer asked.
"Of course not," Harlow smirked, softly punching Eden's arm, encouraging her in his boastful attitude.
"You killed them?" Izzy asked.
"It was self defence," Eden said. "If we didn't kill her, she would have killed us-"
"It's okay," Izzy assured her. "I'm glad you're both alright. Only, we just killed four trying to protect the others; any more, and they might send a full-on war our way."
"...Isn't that what we're all waiting for, though?" Eden asked, earning uncomfortable glances from the others. "I mean, it's obvious they're targeting us, and we're clearly fighting back. I don't see how else this could end."
"No, you're right. Just saying it makes it feel more real," Harlow said.
"Guys, I know we've survived every attack so far, but I don't think we can rest on that," Veer said, slightly apprehensive to bring it up.
"What do you mean?" Izzy asked, voice soft towards her.
"Well, one of them thought they could take on both Harlow and Eden today," Veer answered. "And when you and Eden were at the radio tower. For them to think they can take us on when they're outnumbered means they're probably pretty confident in their abilities."
