Episode Two, Part 1:
Young Blood. After noticing a thin strip of light dancing underneath the doorframe, Veer pushed open the door to the storage cupboard, relieved to have found Izzy after what felt like hours of searching. "There you are," she smiled, walking over towards her friend once she had established her presence. She joined her on the floor, nestling herself between the piles of boxes and old, worn-out clothing. "I've been looking everywhere for you."
"Sorry," Izzy said. "I needed some space, and this seemed to be the only place where people weren't looking for me."
"I heard what happened," Veer said. "You stopped a full-on fight from breaking out. That's total badass."
"I'm not sure who you heard that from, but it's not what I would have said."
"Harlow told me," she answered. "Boasting as always. He said you got hurt, and wanted me to tell him when I found you, but I'm guessing you don't want that..."
Izzy cracked a smile. "It's fine. I'll go find him soon. So long as you don't reveal my hiding place to anyone. If Hope discovers it, I'll never know a moment of peace again."
"Deal," Veer laughed, linking her smallest finger around Izzy's in promise. She turned her attention to the various papers laid out across the floor, intrigued by what had kept Izzy so preoccupied for the entire afternoon. "What's all this?"
"I'm trying to update the map of our surroundings," Izzy said. "And figure out where someone would be hiding if they weren't from Basilisk."
"There's miles and miles of forest, Izzy... You'll drive yourself insane trying to figure out where Myles' 'friend' is."
"What if it's not just one person..." Izzy thought out loud.
"If there was another clan, we'd know about them. Or our parents would have, and they'd have told us before we became Sovereigns. That's not information they'd try and protect us from, especially if they're not the ones in charge anymore."
"I know. But what if they didn't know..."
Veer sighed. "I understand you're worried about Myles and the person you saw with him. Especially as you're the Noble. But before you get too paranoid and speculate an entire other clan being out there, maybe we should take things one step at a time and that starts with figuring out who Myles' friend is. Then we can find out if there's more of him somewhere, and then what they want. We can't possibly expect ourselves to have all the answers all the time."
"Just one answer would be nice," Izzy laughed under her breath.
Worried that she had already dampened the mood, Veer gathered up all of Izzy's papers into a collected pile, then handed them to her. "Enough worrying for today," she said. "And for Harlow; you should go and find him before he declares you missing."
Izzy laughed, grateful that Veer had been there to cheer her up. "You're right. He probably will do that soon."
They both stood up and moved towards the door - Veer pulling it open slightly and poking her head out. "The coast is clear; I can't see Hope anywhere."
They laughed again and hurried out of the closest before anyone else appeared, slowly venturing down the hall.
"You coming? It's almost rations." Izzy asked.
"I'll join you later" Veer answered. "I'm going to find Atlas."
As the two went their separate ways, Veer turned down one of the hallways in the Quarters, knocking on her brother's door.
