Brody had never been as insistent with Nevaeh about an idea as he was now about giving Levi a chance. It annoyed her immensely but Brody was declining day by day and she wanted to savor every moment with him while she still could so she let him talk without answering too much. Every second spent with him was precious so why waste even one even if she didn't agree."I had a dream about Zahia and Jocelyn last night." Brody stated one morning, after they'd dropped the kids off at school as they walked towards the pack house.
"Really?" asked Nevaeh, unsure what he was implying.
"Yes... But it was different this time. They came to reassure me, to tell me they were there waiting for me on the other side. It was so real! I've always been skeptical about things like that, but now that I've experienced it... I don't know if they were real or just a trick of my breathless brain, but I know my end is near, Nevaeh." He explained.
She sighed, swallowing her sadness: "I know Brody, I can feel you weakening much faster than before. I'm not ready to lose you. I knew it all along, but I'm not ready to lose you. I haven't had enough time with you, and I knew it all along too, that all the time in the world in your arms wouldn't be enough."
"I'm sorry, my angel."
"And I'm not!"
"You have no regrets?" Brody asked her.
"None at all. You?" She returned the question.
"Breaking your heart in the end is one of them, which I wanted to avoid at all costs."
"It was worth it! All those happy years with you and our children. Our story was written in the stars! You filled my heart with so much love that it will last for many lifetimes. If you're here with us, keep an eye on the kids!"
"I will!" He vowed to her.
"You know I'm going to find my mate and be happy with her?" He asked her.
"And forget all about me?"
"That's impossible! This is just to tell you that you're young Nevaeh and you have the right to have another man in your life. To know the joy and happiness you'll only know in the arms of your mate."
"Again with that!" She moaned.
"Nevaeh, I just want you to be happy and fulfilled!"
"I know..." She muttered.
They continued walking in silence before a smirk appeared on Nevaeh's face. It didn't augur anything good for Brody.
"So according to you, I have to jump into Levi's arms as soon as you've left us, is that it?" She questioned him.
"More or less." He replied not knowing what she was getting at and not liking it.
"And so what? We mark each other and mate and then live together like one big step-family?"
"Yeah..."
Nevaeh's smile was even more wicked. Her eyes sparkled with mischief, Brody had fallen right into her trap and they both knew it.
"So Evangeline and Oliver will be living on the same roof, right? They might as well share a room already, they'll be stuffed in each other's rooms all the time anyway. How long do you think they'll last before they give in to their urge?"
"No! Out of the question! They'll each have their own room! Opposite, in fact, with no locks, and I'm going to have Levi install cameras!"
Nevaeh laughed, "If you think that's going to stop them! I'd rather they do it under my roof than go I don't know where."
