Zoey pulled her sweater over her head and grabbed her bag before closing her locker shut. She had just finished her shift and was dead tired.

"You going to see him tonight?" Her best friend, Jenny asked her.

Zoey looked at her and had a small smile on her face. "Yeah...I figured I'd kick his butt at a game of scrabble before heading home."

"You know I'm glad you finally found someone who makes you happy Zo, but you need to be careful. You could get in serious trouble if you get caught spending time with him. Plus..."

"I don't want to talk about that. He'll get a heart. I know he will." "But what if he doesn't. He might not live much longer Zoey and I just don't want to see you get hurt."

"Well it's too late. Jenny I'm falling for him...hard. He is one of most sweetest, most amazing men I have ever met. I can't let him go."

Jenny gave a small smile and squeezed her hand. "Ok. Well I'm always here for you, no matter what ok?" Zoey hugged her and said, "Thank you." She nodded and said, "I'll see you at the house. Give Denny my regards."

Zoey smiled and said, "I will."

She then took the elevator upstairs to the ICU and went straight to his room.

Denny was watching the Seahawks game when he saw her leaning against the doorway, smiling at him.

"Damn sweetheart you gonna leave this old man hanging or you gonna come in and give me a kiss." He said reaching for the remote and turning the tv off.

She couldn't resist his thousand watt smile and those cute ass dimples.

Zoey walked over to the bed, sitting her bag on the chair as she sat on the side of him in the bed. His soft hands embraced her cheek as she leaned down and they met each other in a loving unhurried kiss.

"You know one of these days my hearts gonna give out just from those kisses." "Why?" She asked curiously, he smiled at her and said, "Because you take my breath away."

Zoey laughed and rolled her eyes. "Wow, how long you been sitting on that one?" "Mmm, awhile now. Just waited for the perfect opportunity."

She grabbed his cold hand and looked down at their embraced hands. Suddenly she turned very sad as Jenny's words haunted her. He must have noticed becuase he embraced her cheeks again with his other hand. "Hey...why do you look so sad?"

Her teary brown eyes met his hazel ones. Sniffling as she said, "We need to get you a heart Denny. I can't lose you."

"Oh baby...you're not gonna lose me. I'm not going anywhere. I got too much to live for."

"Like what?"

"Like you baby. Hell I ain't got a chance to take you out to a fancy dinner, take you dancing, show you how good in the sack I am. Or even propose to you. And that's just the first date."

Zoey sniffled and laughed at the same time. Smacking Denny's chest playfully. He pulled her down to lay down on the bed with him and cuddled her in his arms.

She ended up falling asleep in his arms when Dr. Burke came in and discovered them.

Denny sshed him so he wouldn't wake her.

"Please don't wake her doc. She's exhausted."

"This is highly inappropriate Denny. She shouldn't be in here."

"Doc I respect you. And I will always be grateful for you. Hell I might even take you out for a beer if I ever get out of here. But until then Doc, I may not even live long enough to give her the life she deserves. Please just let us have this."

Dr. Burke sighed heavily, he should've been a lot angrier but in fact he knew Denny was right. "Ok. But I will have to inform her tomorrow that she can no longer be on your case."

"Can she still be here to support me as my girlfriend?"

"I don't see a problem with that. As long as she doesn't interfere."

It was a month later, they found Denny a heart.

Zoey was a nervous wreck the entire time. She wanted to watch from the surgical suite but Dr. Burke drew the line there.

"You can knit me another sweater. By the time you finish I'll be out of surgery before you know it."

Denny reassured her for at least two hours before they took him back.

So she waited in the room and started working on a sweater while she waited, but she was so worked up that she ended up making a blanket and then began pacing the halls.

Jenny was sitting on an empty stretcher, watching as she paced back and forth.

"Zo please sit down. You're making me nervous."

Zoey twisted the engagement ring on her finger as she paced. Denny had ordered it online and proposed to her on her birthday. It was the same day they had been told he was getting a new heart.

"I guess you're my lucky charm."

"It's been too long Jen. They should have been done by now." "Dr. Burkes probably just taking extra precautions. They'll come tell us something soon I promise."

Just as she said that, Dr. Burke stepped out of the surgical ward. Zoey gripped Jenny's hand. Preparing herself.

It seemed like a lifetime before he spoke. "Denny came through like a champ. It was rough start but he came through."

Zoey made a sigh of relief and then began weeping happily. She hugged Jenny and then hugged Dr. Burke. "Thank you Dr. Burke. I can't tell you how grateful I am." Oddly enough he hugged her back and smiled. "An invitation to the wedding would be nice." "Are you kidding? You're going to be Denny's best man at this point."

He laughed and then said, "We're going to send him to the ICU for a little while and then we'll get him put into a room. If everything goes well, he'll be home by the end of the week."

"Can I see him?" Just then the orderly's wheeled Denny out of the surgical ward and into the hallway. Dr. Burke nodded for her to go and then she looked at Jenny. "Go, I'll go grab us some coffee."

Zoey silently thanked her and followed Denny to his room.

Six months later they were married in the botanical gardens with snow falling all around them as they had their first kiss as husband and wife.

When Zoey became pregnant with their first child a year later. She told Denny she no longer wanted to be a doctor. She wanted to be a stay at home mom and Denny fully supported her. With Denny having a fully successful and sustainable business of his own as well as being part owner of the Seattle Seahawks. They had more then enough money for to be able to stay home.

And as they held their daughter, Ginny Marie Duquette. Zoey looked at her husband and said, "I love you Denny." "I love you too sweetheart. I always will. And our new little addition here too."

Zoey chuckled and said, "I know. She's going to be spoiled rotten. Like I am." Denny kissed her head and wrapped his arms around her. "My girls. I am the luckiest man alive."
