Damian
Why? Why? Why? Why do you hate me? Huh? You hate me this fuckin much? Is this my karma? If it is, let me deal with it, please. Not her.
"You okay, son? Where is she??" Joseph rushed through the doors along with Apollo when they saw me in the waiting room. Covered in his daughter's blood.
I could barely say a word. All I could see was Leila's body laid out on the ground playing over and over in my head. I immediately believed she was dead. For all I know, she could be in one of these rooms. We just left this place and now we're right back to where we started. This time worse than before.
Ma and Pop came rushing in soon after. "Damian! Figlio, what happened?! You're bleeding. Why aren't you-."
"It- it's not mine." I stated on shaky breath. I gulped in fear as the event continuously repeated itself.
"Oh God. Leila..." mama clutched onto her chest. "Have the doctors said anything?"
"Mama she- she was thrown out the window. She's in a coma." I met her eyes in glossy vision.
"What?!?!" Two familiar voices screamed in the distance. Nia and her sister cried in both my brothers' arms.
"How could this happen? God hates me this much he's punishing me through Lei?"
"No. No, baby. This isn't God's doing and you know that." Mama tries to reassure but I'm not tryna hear it.
"I don't. I don't know what the hell is going on, but it seems to reoccur every blink of an eye."
"Baby, this is just a minor mishap. All we need to do is pra-
I cut her off. "Minor? Praying? I did that. Look where it got me, Mama! Right back here! Except she's the one dying this ti-." My heart shatters and before I could fall to my knees, Joseph embraces me.
I broke all my walls down and poured every bit of emotion into my father in law's shoulder. "I don't know what Ima do, man. I thought I was doing everything right. I can't lose her. We're supposed to be getting married."
"She's gonna be okay, Dame. I know you're shaken up, son, but you know my daughter's a fighter." He pulls away to rest both his hands on my shoulders. "She'll fight through this. You're not alone. We're here."
I nodded. I turned to my mother who looks to me with caring empathy. "I'm sorry, Mama. I didn't mean to snap on you."
"It's okay, baby. I understand. Trust me." She looked to my father and held his hand tightly.
"Damian. Romano family." My cousin returned, dressed in his operating suit. With blood covering the front.
"Lorenzo." Dom addressed.
When he approached, I couldn't ignore his bloody fit, because I know it's hers. "I wish I could share some better news, but...."
My heart raced. "Oh my God... she's not..." Imani cried.
"No. No ma'am. She's alive." The fucking relief. "Although, Leila did suffer a somewhat minor injury previously and now because of the accident, it could be major. We're still figuring out what else could be damaged. I will advise you... her healing process could take months. That's if she continues to fight through this."
"She's gonna fight through this and I'm staying here. I need to see her." Mama grabs my arm. "I'm not giving up on her, mama. She didn't quit on me. I'm not letting her go through this alone."
"We're not either, baby." She reminded as she spoke for everyone who agreed.
"Mr. Romano?" A police officer called out to me. I peaked my head up to eye him down.
