Shane placed the gleaming knife against Sam's throat. She was about to slice him open before Dean spoke up, "why don't you kill me first? I mean," he coughed, "if you feed off negative feelings, then I'd give you quite the power boost."
The demon paused, "what makes you say that, Dean?"
"Think about it. I was the one who took it upon himself to take care of Shane. I left her behind. I abandoned her after promising her that I'd protect her. You want a thirst quenching kill, kill me."
The demon thought about his offer. "You may be right, Dean. But Sam did the same thing, so why kill you first? Why not make you suffer and drink up the pain of your loss as I kill you?"
"Because you can have my pain now. I was crushed over Shane's disappearance. Seeing her again... it's killing me. So... please. Just end me. One of the two of us will suffer no matter who you kill first. So please. Kill me."
The demon sat still, knife pressed against Sam's throat. Her eyes showed heavy contemplation.
"You know what? Ok," the demon took the knife away from Sam's throat, and approached Dean, "fine. You've convinced me. I mean, either way I'm going to get the power I want, so for once, I'll be nice and put you out of your misery."
She placed the blade against his neck and smirked. "You're going to die, Dean. How does it feel to know the one you couldn't save is going to kill you? Really, I'm curious."
She brought her arm back to stab Dean's neck. Dean's arm shot out from behind him and gripped the demon's arm as tightly as he could. He shoved her back with great force, slamming her into the table behind her. Dean scrambled to undo his feet, and after freeing them he charged the demon again, slamming her into the table again.
"You wanna fight dirty, Dean? That's my speciality." She freed her hand from Dean's grasp and flung him across the room with her mind. "I'm an expert."
Dean got up. I have to do this. I have to fight her. For Shane. He ran at the demon, slamming his fist into her stomach multiple times. He picked her up and slammed her into the grounds, then moved to punching her in the face. I'm sorry, Shane. I really am.
The demon kicked Dean off and pounced on him, eyes turning black, scratching at him furiously, creating small, deep cuts in his skin. She then started beating him with her fists. Hit after hit until Dean thought he couldn't hold on much longer.
But he would not give up.
He fought back, kicked her off, threw her into the wall and scrambled to get a knife.
The demon grabbed him by the feet and threw him away from the blade, but not before Dean could grab it.
He rolled onto his back as Shane approached him and drove the knife into her thigh. She paused, and glanced at the blood seeping from the wound. "No matter, Dean. If you kill Shane for me, that just makes my job easier."
Dean thought about how to get this over with. He had no Devil's trap, he didn't have any salt, he didn't even have...
Wait...
The pentagram.
Dean dug into his jacket pocket and pulled out the necklace just in time for the demon to get close to him. He pressed it against her collar bone as she dove for his neck. She jolted back, skin steaming where it had been placed.
"Shane, if you can hear me, please listen!"
"Oh please," the demon coughed, "not this again."
"Shane, you have to fight her! I can help you but you have to help me," he yelled as he pressed the pentagram against the demon's skin again, "I can't do this without you! She's too strong!"
Dean saw a light flicker in the demon's cold black eyes. He knew.
She heard me.
"Shane please..."
I know you can hear me, kid. But there was no flicker.
"You have to try to fight. Please!"
I need her to hear me. He though as he dodged another stack from the demon. An idea struck him.
"For me, kid! If for nothing else, try for me!"
There it was. The flicker. She had heard him again.
The demon scratched a gash across his arm.
"Shane, please try... for me!"
"You can't reach her, Dean! She's given up!" A twisted grin spread over her face, "she's given up."
"I tried, Dean," the voice from the demon this time was soft. Beaten, raspy, and full of tears. But Dean knew. It was Shane. The real Shane. "I'm not... strong enough..."
Dean leapt off the ground where he'd just been flung, "yes you are, Shane. You can fight it. I know you can!"
"Forget it, Dean," the demon laughed, "she's gone. You will never-" the demon released a cry of pain and stumbled backward. It steadied itself and continued gloating. "She's never-" another scream. A blood curdling scream.
Dean watched as the demon's arm moved, but it didn't look like the demon wanted that to happen. There was a hum coming from Shane, and a light started radiating from her. The demon began screaming in pain. Sam came over to join Dean, finally free from his chains. Dean didn't understand. Shane's body started to levitate, and Dean took that opportunity to latch the pentagram around her neck.
Right after doing so, he was blinded by a hot, white light originating from Shane's eyes. Dean stumbled backwards.
"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!"
He heard Shane scream, and everything was blocked out by piercing white light.
