Zara's POVThe sound of an alarm clock going off on the nightstand made me groan and toss the cover over my head. I didn't want to get up. I didn't even want to be in this chaotic ass house.
My dad got a promotion which meant our family had to relocate from Illinois all the way here to Hawthorne, California.
I'm going to be missing out on finishing the rest of my freshman year with my friends I've known since pre-k! Hell! I'm going to miss high school with them period. It's not fair! Suddenly a voice yelled through the bedroom door.
"Zara! Mama said you better be up in the next two minutes or you're in for a rude awakening!"
Zara: (groans) Ugh! Okay!
I flipped the cover from over my head and rolled my eyes, sitting up. I leaned down towards the lower bunk to my younger sister Trini who was still sound asleep. Grabbing the pillow beside me, I chucked it underneath me at her causing her to jump up in shock.
Trini: (groans and looks up) What was that for??
Zara: If I have to be up then so do you.
Trini: School doesn't even start for me until 8! It's 6:20 right now!
Zara: (climbs down the ladder) Hey. I don't make the rules.
Even though seven... I mean six...well my older brother Lashawn basically stays here on the weekends when he comes to wash his clothes so might as well say SEVEN of us live in this new house, it's only two bathrooms. One in mom and dads room on the other side of the house and the one us siblings share was out in the hall across from the other bedrooms.
Everyone had to have a scheduled time and right about now was my time.
Zara: (bangs on the bathroom door) Amari! I know that's you in there! Your time been up!
The door swung open to reveal the second oldest of this family. My brother Amari.
Amari: I forgot to brush my waves during my time. Plus you're late anyways.
Zara: By six minutes. I still have at least nine left if you would get out.
Amari: (snickers and brushes past her) You lucky I don't have any other reason to still be in here because I'd stay even longer to spite you.
Zara: (rolls her eyes) Ha Ha...

Running into the kitchen, I was greeted by our parents. It looked like Dad was just getting ready to walk out of the door.Jason: Oh! Glad you finally came out the bathroom. I already told the twins but I'm going in early today so y'all have to take the bus.
Zara: (sighs) Okay dad.
He left out of the back door as I plopped down next to Amari and Ryah. His twin and our sister. Mom walked over from the stove and started putting two scoops of grits into our bowls.
Sonya: I know ya'll not too thrilled about starting a whole new school in the second half of the school year but I promise it's gonna all work out in the long run.
Ryah: Work out as in me finally getting to have my own room?
Sonya: The goal is to eventually get there. With your dad's new job and me working, we should be able to make it happen in a year or two.
