The constable parked the jeep outside her home and she got down from the new vehicle. It was an upgraded perk that came with the driver thanks to her rising in rank. She did miss her thaana but the thaana now came under several other divisions which she overlooked. The lights were on in her home and she smiled heartily wanting to meet her wife as soon as possible. She nodded at the constable walking towards her home, her Karishma. She knocked and waited.
"Aah rahe hai!" Came her wife's voice. The door clicked open and there she stood, still wearing her uniform, but her hair in a messy bun, her hand held a spatula indicating that she had been cooking dinner for them tonight. The delicious smell of their dinner hit Haseena's nose and she inhaled deeply, relieved that she didn't have to cook that night. Karishma had learnt to cook in spite of her protests. Sharing the kitchen with her was hard given how messy she always left it once she'd cooked but Haseena knew that that was one thing she had to get used to.
After all, marriage was that push and pull. One had to know when to push and when to pull back. Karishma wanting to contribute and cook for them was her pushing and Haseena cleaning up after her was Haseena pulling back. They both knew when to push and pull and that was why they were happily married. Marriage hadn't lessened their love for one another but their love seemed to have blossomed more as they got to know each other more.
"Aagayi aap." Karishma smiled and opened her arms for a hug and Haseena grinned as she walked into her wife's embrace. This was one of the many days she had come home late. She perched her face in the crook of Karishma's neck inhaling as her, hands encircled around her wife's waist pulling her more into her. She loved their height difference. It was comforting to lean in a bit to complete their embrace and she smiled as Karishma hugged her with her one hand as the other still held the spatula.
Their home hadn't changed much in the years after Karishma had moved after their marriage. Except, the wall adjacent to the living area's infamous couch had a 3 by 2 frame of the married couple from their wedding day followed by a smaller frame of day they had officially registered their marriage after it was legalised in India, both days holding a special place in their hearts. The coffee table that was once empty now had a frame in which the couple hugged their daughter actually squishing the little one, from one of their vacations when Karishma was transferred to Mumbai for a couple years in between.
The display of medals that once held just Haseena's achievements which was later on adjusted to accommodate Karishma's too now also held their daughters' tiny achievements and certificates in the front row. It was as if the couple were prouder about their daughters' participation certificate more than their foot long medals.
"I missed you Karu." Haseena whispered and Karishma kissed her shoulder patting her back with her one hand.
"Acha?" Karishma asked with a voice that made Haseena raise her one brow with a small smirk playing at her lips.
"Mmhmm. Aapne humko miss nahi kiya huh?" She enquired, childishly wanting reassurance from her wife.
"Humne bhi bahoth miss kiya aapko Hasee. Ab humein chodiye na please jal jayega khaana." Haseena sighed in response but loosened her grip and continued to hold Karishma's waist lightly. Karishma removed her cap with one hand placing it on the table along with hers and walked back to the kitchen.
"Dinn kaisa raha aapka?" Karishma asked, as Haseena followed her to the kitchen.
"Acha tha. Par woh SHO hai na, uske saat aaj bhi ladai hui." Being an ASP, Haseena was the one to deal with the SHOs of the area that came under her control.
"Aii wohi? Gusse waali?" Karishma asked as she stirred.
"Ji wohi! Keh rahi thi ki Minister ka banda hai toh kya chamat maarna theek tha iss situation mein. I mean woh sahi toh hai par upar se pressure bhi hai case theek se handle karne ke liye." Haseena hugged Karishma from behind, pressing herself to her back inhaling deeply, kissing her neck as she continued to stir.
