The Flea and the Acrobat - 3
"Wonders, horrors, and Dustin's navigation skills. This just keeps getting better."
Y/N POV:
After swiftly changing our clothes, we set out in the direction indicated by the compass. Dustin and Lucas took the lead, with Dustin being the compass expert. Arlo and I followed closely behind them, while Mike and El behind us.
"Is this thing even working properly? Feels like we've been wandering forever," Arlo remarked, eyeing the compass skeptically.
"We just have to trust it," I reassured, double-checking the compass. "And remember, Dustin swears by its reliability."
Arlo raised an eyebrow, sarcasm evident. "Dustin and reliability in the same sentence? Color me skeptical."
I smirked. "True, but apparently, he's the compass genius."
Arlo chuckled. "Wonders, horrors, and Dustin's navigation skills. This just keeps getting better."
A shared laugh between us eased the tension of the unknown path ahead.
We continued walking until we stumbled upon a junkyard, and it dawned on us that night would soon descend within an hour or two.
"Oh no," Dustin said, eyeing his compass.
"Oh no? What's 'oh no'?" Lucas asked.
"We're heading back home," Dustin answered.
"What? Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure. It's the setting sun right there. We looped right back around," Dustin replied, pointing at the setting sun. As we looked at the sun, then we turned to Dustin.
"And you're just realizing this now?" Arlo asked him.
"Why is this all on me?" Dustin asked.
"Because you're the compass genius!" Lucas yelled.
"Well, what do all yours say?" Dustin asked, and we looked at our compasses.
"North," we said together, then sighed.
Dustin sighed. "Makes no damn sense."
"Maybe the gate moved?" Mike suggested.
"No, I don't think it's the gate. I think it's something else screwing with the compasses," Dustin answered.
"Maybe it's something here?" Arlo said.
"Nah, it has to be like a super magnet or something," Dustin continued.
"It's not a magnet," Lucas said as we all turned to him, and he pointed at El.
"She's been acting weirder than normal. If she can slam doors with her mind, she can definitely screw up a compass."
