"If we ever fight again, promise you won't just shut me out. It hurts, you know"

Y/N POV:

"This is where we know for sure it's been, right?" Jonathan said, pointing to the piece of paper with three red x's, shaped in a circle.

"So that's..." Nancy whispered.

"Steve's house," Jonathan said, finishing Nancy's sentence. "That's the woods where they found Will's bike, that's my house."

"It's all so close," I said.

"Yeah, exactly," Jonathan nods. "I mean, it's all within a mile or something. Whatever this thing is, it's not traveling far," he said, looking at me.

"You want to go out there?" I asked him.

"We might not find anything this time," Jonathan said.

"We found something last time," Nancy said with a pointed look. Jonathan and I looked at Nancy before she continued. "And if we do see it, then what?"

"We kill it," Jonathan sighs, looking between me and Nancy, causing Nancy and me to exchange a glance.

Jonathan sat in the passenger seat of his car, unlocking the glovebox and quickly rummaging through it.

"What are you doing?" Nancy asked.

"Just give me a second," Jonathan said. I looked at him, wondering what he was up to, as he pulled out a gun.

"Are you serious?" Nancy sighed.

"What?" Jonathan said, shoving the bullets into his coat pocket. "You want to find this thing and take another photo? Yell at it?"

"This is a terrible idea," Nancy said as Jonathan came out of the car.

"Yeah, well," Jonathan sighed. "It's the best we've got. What? You can tell someone, but they're not going to believe you. You know that."

"Your mom would," Nancy said.

"She's been through enough," I said to Nancy.

"She deserves to know," Nancy said to me.

"Yeah, and I'll tell her," Jonathan snapped. "Once this thing is dead."

After that, we all decided to go home and meet again. My mom and I returned home as my sister went to Mike's. When we entered, our eyes widened as our house was totally collapsed. My dad was sitting on the sofa amidst the wreckage, and everything was destroyed, as if he had been searching for something.

"Dad," I called at the same time as my mom, "Noah." Dad turned to us.

"What happened here?" I asked as we stood in front of him.

"I just lost something, so I was searching," he said, leaving me looking at him with confusion.

"Y/N," Mom called, and I turned to her. "You mentioned you were going to meet Nancy, right?. So go change and join her," Mom said. I looked between Mom and Dad, then went to my room and quickly changed into casual clothes. I slowly walked to my mom's room, then without making noise, I checked around their room for the gun. Finally finding it, I walked downstairs. Mom and Dad were still sitting silently. Nervously, I said goodbye to them and walked out of the house.

"What on earth is he doing?" I asked myself when I saw Steve waiting in the driveway in front of my house. Steve fidgeted, not noticing my approach; he was talking to himself. With each step, I got closer, and I heard him rehearsing an apology, practicing the words.

"I messed up. Gotta make it right. Y/N deserves an apology," he said as I watched for a moment, eyebrows furrowed, before sighing and deciding to call him.

"Steve?" I called him. Startled, Steve turned to face me, a mix of surprise and nervousness on his face.

"Oh, hey Y/N! Funny running into you here. Lovely weather we're having, right?" he asked as I turned to my house, then turned back to him. He also looked at my house, then looked at me, realizing he was babbling nervously.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

"I'm just taking a walk," he said as I narrowed my eyes at him, then turned my head to his car as he chuckled nervously.

"So, did you catch the game last night? Crazy ending, right?" he blabbed again as I sighed at him.

"Cut to the chase, Steve. What's going on?" I asked as he stared at me, then took a deep breath.

"I just wanted to say I'm really sorry about our argument. I was a jerk and said some stupid things I didn't mean," he said as I stared at him.

"It's alright. I'm sorry too," I said as he smiled at me.

"Um, yeah. Any news about Barb?" Steve asked me as I took a deep breath.

"They're still searching. It's a slow process," I said, not wanting Steve to get involved in this. Just as I checked my watch and saw it was almost late.

"Well, I should go," I said, trying to walk away but Steve nervously reached out and grabbed my hand.

"Wait, Y/N."

"If we ever fight again, promise you won't just shut me out. It hurts, you know," he said. I stared at Steve, surprised by the sincerity in his eyes. Slowly, it dawned on me that I had been using our disagreements as an outlet for the stress of recent Hawkins incidents, inadvertently ignoring Steve in the process.

"It's not like that," I nervously said. "I have a lot on my mind, and-" Steve cut me off.

"Hey, hey," he put his hand on my shoulder. "It's okay; I understand," he said as I stared at him. He then hugged me, and I slowly raised my arms and hugged him, nuzzling into his neck.

Then I lightly pushed him, remembering he has a girlfriend, without looking at him and avoiding his eyes. "It's getting late; I have to go," I said. "You know, to pick up my sister from Wheeler's," I added, and he nodded in understanding.

Without looking back, I started to walk away, leaving him in the driveway.
