"Wow. She looks—"

"Pretty"

THE NEXT DAY:

I lay in bed, the weight of grief still heavy on my shoulders. The door creaked open, and my dad entered, concern etched on his face. My sister and mom lingered by the door, their eyes filled with worry.

"How are you, sweetheart?" my dad asked gently. I attempted to sit up, but he stopped me with a reassuring hand.

"Hey, hey, it's okay," he said, tucking me in. "You can take a day off. You don't have to go to school today, okay?"

I nodded in agreement. He studied me for a moment, sighing as he kissed my forehead. "You can talk to me," he assured me before leaving the room. My sister and mom shared warm smiles with me before closing the door, leaving me to process my emotions in the quiet solitude of my room.

After a few minutes, my walkie-talkie started buzzing, and Lucas's voice came through. "Y/n, do you copy?" he repeated persistently.

I picked up the walkie-talkie and responded, "What is it, Lucas? Over."

"Come to Mike's house. Over," he instructed. I sighed, not really in the mood for more events.

"I'm not in the mood, Lucas. Over," I replied.

"This is about Will. Hurry to Mike and bring Arlo. Over and out," Lucas conveyed urgently. I stared at the walkie-talkie for a moment, contemplating the situation. Then, I signaled Arlo.

"Arlo, do you copy?" I transmitted through the walkie-talkie, and soon, his response came in. "I'm here. Over."

"Lucas said to come to Mike's house, and also, this is about Will. Hurry to my house. Over and out," I conveyed quickly, cutting the channel, and then started to get ready for whatever awaited us at Mike's.

Arlo and I met as we both drove to Mike's place. When we parked our bikes at Mike's, Dustin and Lucas arrived at the same time and parked next to us.

"We keep losing the signal, but you heard it, right?" Mike asked as the five of us sat in a circle in front of El.

"Yeah, I heard a baby," Lucas replied.

"What?" Mike asked.

"Mike, you obviously tapped into a baby monitor. Probably the Blackburns' next door," Lucas said back.

"Did that sound like a baby to you? That was Will," Mike said with attitude.

"Mike—" Lucas began.

"Lucas, you don't understand. He spoke last night—words! He was singing that weird song he likes. Even El heard him," Mike interrupted as we looked at him. We didn't know if we wanted to get hope or not.

"Well, if the weirdo heard him, then—" Lucas said sarcastically before Arlo cut him off.

"Are you sure you're on the right channel?" Arlo asked Mike.

"I don't think it's about that. I think somehow she's channeling him," Mike answered.

"Like... like Professor X said," Dustin added, making Mike and him smile.

"Are you actually believing this crap?" Lucas said as he glanced at me, Dustin, and Arlo. I looked down. I'm still not sure.

"I don't know. I mean... Remember that time Will fell off his bike and broke his finger? It sounded a lot like that," Dustin replied.

"Did you guys not see what I saw? They pulled Will's body out of the water. He's dead!" Lucas said as we all stayed silent.

"Maybe it's his ghost, maybe he's haunting us?" Dustin suggested.

"It's not his ghost," Mike replied.

"And how do you know that?" Lucas asked Mike, bringing his sarcastic voice back.

"I just do."

"Then what was in that water?!"

"I don't know. All I know is Will is alive. Will is alive!" Mike finished, looking at all of us. "He's out there somewhere. All we have to do is find him."

Eleven continued playing with the walkie-talkie as Mike turned to me.

"Y/n," he called as I looked up at him. "Do you trust me?" He asked as I looked down then turned to look up at El as she also looked at me.

"Can I trust you again?" I asked her as she nodded her head. I stared at her then slowly smiled back at her.

I turned to Mike as he smiled at me, as if saying thanks, then took the walkie-talkie from El.

"This isn't gonna work. We need to get El to a stronger radio."

Dustin and Arlo smiled at each other. "Mr. Clarke's Heathkit ham shack," they both said at the same time, and Mike nodded in agreement.

"The Heathkits are at school. There's no way we're gonna get the weirdo in there without anyone noticing. I mean, look at her," Lucas said, and we all turned to her as she looked at each one of us.

I assisted El with the makeup while the boys rummaged through Nancy's room searching for dresses. Eventually, they found a pink dress and a blonde wig. I helped El put on the dress and secure the wig, ensuring everything looked just right. Once she was ready, I walked her out of the room, and the boys turned to look at us.

I helped El with the makeup as the boys searched for dresses in Nancy's room and took a pink dress with a blonde wig. I assisted her in putting on the dress and wig, then walked her out of the room as the boys turned to us. Mike looked at her; he's already in love with her.

"Wow. She looks—" Dustin began, but Mike cut him off without realizing.

"Pretty," he said, and I raised my eyebrows at him. "Good," he quickly corrected. "You look pretty good," he said as we all looked at him with smirks, Eleven went to the mirror, looked at herself, and smiled.

"Pretty," she said as Mike nodded. "Good," she added, and Arlo and I looked at each other, nodding our heads, fully aware that Mike is in love.
