The Bathtub - 3
"I wanna finish what we started"
Y/N POV:
I stood behind the kids as Jonathan, Dad, and Hopper poured salt into the water.
Arlo tested it by putting an egg in the water, and it sank. We all sighed. Then, the process repeated, and this time the egg floated the five kids smiled to themselves.
Everyone took their places around the kiddie pool. Eleven removed her yellow and green striped socks and placed the goggles, duck-taped on her head.
Hopper and my mom guided Eleven into the pool as she lay down and floated in the water. Mom sat next to Joyce, and I sat next to her with my dad beside me.
The lights above us started flickering, indicating she had started looking for Barb and Will.
After a moment, Eleven muttered, "Barbara?" My parents turned to me as I leaned closer.
"What's going on?" Nancy asked.
"I don't know," Mike said, furrowing his brows.
"Is Barb okay?" Nancy asked Eleven. "Is she okay?"
"Gone," Eleven whimpered, making my eyes go wide. "Gone." Her breathing quickened, and tears started to flow in my eyes as my dad and mom grabbed both of my hands.
"It's okay," Joyce soothed. "It's okay. It's okay."
"Gone. Gone!"
"It's okay. It's okay," Joyce repeated, gripping Eleven's wrists, trying to calm her down. "Hey, it's okay."
"We're right here, sweety," my mom said to Eleven. "It's okay. You're safe."
After Eleven calmed down she whispered, "Castle Byers," Joyce and Jonathan looked at each other.
"Will?" Eleven asked. Joyce gasped, leaning closer to Eleven.
"Tell him... tell him I'm coming. Mom is coming," Joyce said to her.
"Your mom, she is coming," I heard Eleven whisper.
"Hurry." Will's voice came through the small walkie-talkie on the cart.
"Okay." Joyce shuddered. "Listen, you need to tell him to... to stay where he is. We're coming. We're coming, okay? We're coming, honey."
"Just hold on a little longer," Eleven whispered, her voice tinged with panic. A minute later, she shot up from the water, her whimpering echoing loudly through the radio. She ripped off the goggles and started panting heavily.
Curling up into a ball while hugging Joyce, my mom wrapped a towel around her.
"It's in the woods behind our house," Joyce explained to Hopper and Dad as they put on their jackets. I stood next to Jonathan as my mom went somewhere.
"Yeah, he used to go there to hide," Jonathan said, but Dad and Hopper ignored them and walked away. We all exchanged glances and followed them.
"Hey, get back inside," Hopper said as he noticed Joyce following them. When Jonathan and I came out, my sister also joined us.
"Are you kidding me? He's my son, Hop. My son. I'm going," Joyce shouted at him. Without waiting for a second, she turned to Jonathan.
"Dad," I called, but my mom came out of the door.
"I want to come," my mom said, making my sister, my dad, and me widen our eyes.
"What? No," my dad said.
"Oh no, not you too," Hopper said.
"Will has been down there for almost one week. When we find him, he needs immediate treatment," my mom explained, showing her bag, which she must have collected from the school.
The three adults looked at each other, acknowledging that my mom was right. With no objection, Joyce smiled at my mom.
"Thanks, Melissa," Joyce said, and my mom nodded at her, then turned to me and my sister.
"You guys stay safe, okay?" She asked, and we both nodded.
"Y/n, keep the kids safe," she added, and I nodded. She hugged us both.
"Mom," I hugged her tight. Just now, I lost my best friend, and now I'm afraid for my parents.
Then we pulled away, and I turned to my dad. He smiled at us, then hugged me and my sister tightly. I could tell he was afraid too.
As we both pulled away, my dad sat in the passenger seat, and my mom and Joyce sat in the back seat. We three watched them driving away.
"Y/s/n, go inside," I said to her as she nodded and quickly ran inside.
I nervously bit my lip before heading inside. It was a struggle between wanting to let out my emotions through tears and maintaining a hopeful belief that everyone would come back home safe and sound, especially Will.
I noticed Nancy seated on the floor, her back against the wall. Approaching her, I took a seat beside her, and when she turned to me, I could see tears welling up in her eyes. Seeking support, she quickly turned her body towards mine, wrapping her arms around me, and the tears started to flow. I gently rubbed her back, offering solace in our shared anxiety.
I felt someone sit down beside me as I pulled away from Nancy, and when I turned, it was Jonathan.
"We have to go back to the station," I announced to them, revealing the plan that had been forming in my mind since Hopper and Dad mentioned entering the Upside Down.
"What?" Jonathan turned to me.
"They are just walking in there like bait," Nancy added.
"That thing is still in there. And we can't just sit here and let it get them, too." I said.
"You still wanna try it out?" Jonathan sighed.
"I wanna finish what we started," I insisted.
"And I want to kill it," Nancy added, her voice filled with determination.
The three of us discreetly make our way into the police station. A police officer is casually seated at a desk, feet up, absorbed in the radio and casually shuffling a deck of playing cards. Unaware of our presence, we efficiently gather the items we purchased earlier in the day.
Exiting the room, I seize a fire extinguisher.
