"Why don't you give me a try?"

Y/N POV:

Seated in the police station after the altercation with Steve and his friends, I found myself next to Jonathan while Nancy applied an ice pack to his head. Glancing over at the two, it was evident that they had developed a good rapport.

Suddenly, my mom, dad, Joyce Byers, and Chief Hopper burst through the doors of the station, their expressions shifting from confusion to concern as they spotted the three of us at the desk.

"Hey," Joyce called out, perplexed. "Jonathan? Jesus, what... what happened?"

My mom and dad turned their gaze towards me, and I widened my eyes, looking away while pursing my lips. It was clear that I was in for some serious grounding.

"Ma'am..." Officer Callahan began slowly.

"I'm fine," Jonathan grumbled.

"Why is he wearing handcuffs?" Joyce demanded.

"Well," Officer Callahan began as he stood up from his seat, "your boy assaulted a police officer. That's why."

"Take them off," she said simply.

"I'm afraid I cannot do that..." Callahan shook his head.

"Take them off!" Joyce cried.

"You heard her," Hopper said. "Take them off."

"Chief," Powell piped in. "I get everyone's emotional here, but there's something you need to see."

My dad and Hopper returned to the station, setting the box of bear traps and other items in front of us that we had bought.

"What is this?" my mom asked, looking through it with Joyce.

"Why don't you ask your son?" Hopper said, looking at Joyce. "We found it in his car."

"What?" She asked, her eyes widening.

"Why are you going through my car?" Jonathan grumbled.

"Is that really a question you should be asking right now?" My dad said, leaning on the table in front of Jonathan. "I want to see you in my office."

"You won't believe us," I said.

"Why don't you give me a try?" My dad said, sharing a glance with Hopper.

The three of us, along with my mom, dad, Joyce, and Hopper, sat in a circle around Hopper's desk as the picture of Barb sitting at the pool was passed among them. I was biting my lip, waiting for them to say anything; Jonathan was biting his nails, and Nancy looked quite.

"You say blood draws this thing?" Hopper asked.

"We don't know," I said softly. "It's just a theory."
