The smell of Gelan's cooking floated through the mansion and reached Yunlan's bedroom encouraging him to get up. He opened his eyes and glanced over at Shen Wei who was still asleep which was not surprising after his disturbed night and healing Yunlan's gunshot wound. He wasn't having the chance to build up his energy to heal his own injuries and Yunlan wondered if there was anything that he could do to help him regain his strength, but his thoughts were interrupted when he felt Wei move, unconsciously displaying his pain level in his expression.
"Good morning Xaio Wei, how are you feeling this morning?" Yunlan leaned over and lightly brushed a kiss over Wei's brow, watching for his expression to change and try to hide his level of discomfort, and he wasn't wrong. Wei smiled back at him trying very hard to hide his pain which doesn't work with someone who knows a lie when he sees it.
"Stay still Wei until Gelan has a look at your dressings." Yunlan said as he arose from the bed to fetch a robe for wearing, before he strode down the hall and shouted on Gelan from the top of the stairs. His voice echoed in the empty rooms making it sound much louder and Gelan appeared, wondering why she had been called. She was not in the habit of answering loud men but her attitude changed when she saw the concerned look on Yunlan's face and came to see what the problem was.
Yunlan spoke quietly to her and apologised for shouting.
"Wei is hiding his pain, I think something might be wrong, could you take a look, please Gelan." and she nodded, patting the back of his hand as she passed him heading towards the bedroom where Wei was still in bed.
"Good morning My Lord, I've come to change your dressings, give you nice fresh ones," and she noticed his grimace as she moved the duvet back out of the way. Yunlan was not over reacting as she had initially thought. From then on she took note of every facial twitch and sign as she started to unwrap his right leg, stopping when he couldn't verbally hide it from her and she sent for Chu before continuing. Yunlan hurried to wash and dress before he arrived, watching Wei's every movement to see how bad the injuries had become.
Chu had brought his medical supplies with him and he gave Wei some strong painkillers before they proceeded with the removal of his dressings. Shen Wei knew that he wasn't getting any better but had hoped to be able to heal himself, and probably would have if Yunlan hadn't been shot the day before and almost killed. Therefore any energy he had was used on him, with none held back for himself, and his own injuries had deteriorated faster with nothing to stop their progression.
Chu slowly removed the gauze dressings, recognising the familiar smell of infection and spoke to Shen Wei through telepathy.
"Wei my friend, when did it become so bad, was it because of the shooting yesterday?"
"Chu, you must never say that to Yunlan, but you are not wrong, it did have an effect on me. Canyou save my legs or has the damage gone too deep?"
