The ground was hard and the smaller rocks were digging into Yunlan's back as he lay watching the last of the battle come to an end. It had been rough, Yezun was not wrong when he had said that they would keep on coming, even if they were injured but at least everyone was safe, the hologram was protecting them, nothing would break his shield. It was designed by Shen Wei Sr. two lifetimes ago and his talent was unbelievable but Black Robe would be angry at Yunlan for putting himself at risk.
Ouyang was still alive and looking for him after he fell from the edge of the cliff, ignoring the fact that his soldiers no longer answered to him. They were free of the mind control built into the drug but were fighting against each other to survive. Hypnotism on a grand scale had worked but at different times which caused major confusion associated with the amnesia.
The mountain had granted Yunlan one more favour. It had sealed the cave and lowered the temperature when the last of the guards had reached their limits, keeping Shen Wei safe behind a wall of rock, safe from the lunatic who was approaching Yunlan while the soldiers restrained him at the edge of the cliff. No one expected the second earthquake which split the ground where he stood, and he felt himself falling backwards and hitting several small bushes on his descent which broke his impact when he hit the ground. He remembered his promise to Yezun about the lunatic going home before he would destroy the doorway, and he forced himself to move and assess his injuries.
Think, Yunlan Think, use your brain, he told himself and lit his green medical flame, waiting for it to dull the pain, knowing that he was at risk of the lunatic finding him before he was ready. He felt some relief and dragged himself over to a small overhang that would block anyone seeing him from above, and hid underneath to examine his injuries. Yunlan used the green flame by instinct, he took a deep breath in and lit himself up, completely engulfed, and waited for the pain which he expected, but there was none. There was noise as bones moved back into place, snapping or cracking and he hated the sound, because he could watch his injuries correcting themselves silently, but when a bone cracked, it sickened him and even the green flames didn't stop the nausea.
Several soldiers walked past him in a daze not knowing where they were and ignored him, but he scared off others by the sight of a man on fire with green flames, and they ran away terrified. Yunlan sat until all the skin surface injuries were healed and tried to move his limbs, finding out if his legs were strong enough to support him even a short distance, giving himself time to get to the active doorway. Ouyang spotted him as he entered the woods and knew where he was going, ideal, this was turning out better than he had planned, and he started to work his way down the mountain to follow Yunlan and make him pay double, because Black Robe was already dead under the collapsed cave.
The hologram had been given orders, that under no circumstances was he to let any harm come to the four trapped humans under his shield, but he was getting tired of the continual barrage of pleas and reasons why they should be released.
