Shen Wei brought the wreck of Yunlan's car to his own home, specifically to his garage where he could study it and find out more about the device that was used. Who and why were his main thoughts as he began to scan the unrecognisable shell looking for any evidence which would help. What he did find was puzzling. Even although Yunlan and Chu heard the click and assumed that it was the door handle that had triggered the bomb, they were wrong. Someone had set it off only after Yunlan had released the handle, they had been watching for him to be near his car to kill him. Who and Why.
Yunlan slept soundly in his office while Chu acted as bodyguard and door keeper, forbidding anyone to enter until the effects of his sedative had worn off, and Yunlan awoke feeling very much better. He gathered his team in the main office and casually sat on the edge of a desk to explain about his car being bombed and the specialist who took it away to be examined.
"Search our files to see if the muggers are recognisable, they left me unconscious and took the car keys away, they knew that the first thing I would do when I woke up would be to check the car and the bomb would have killed me. Why? Check my old files for any grudges strong enough for someone to do this, when I get the results of the blast, I'll inform you of the findings."
Chu took point and organised the staff to search case histories, but Yunlan was quite sure that he didn't have any death grudges in his past case files and he did a search of other areas, looking for unexplained police deaths. Looking at this from a different angle, he considered that maybe it was the title that was targeted and not him personally.
The rest of the day dragged in slowly without any progress in finding anyone who would want Yunlan dead. His loyal staff had been diligently searching every case that he had been involved in since becoming Chief and found absolutely nothing. Previous to this, it was someone else's name who took the credit for solving whatever case he worked on, therefore they would have been the target, not him.
Time to wrap it up for the day and try again tomorrow, new day, new search and he dismissed his team thanking them for their work. Realising that he had no transport, he considered calling Shen Wei but decided against it. If someone really was after him, he didn't want Wei visible anywhere near him and he called a taxi to take him home, falling asleep in the back seat until the driver woke him up when he reached his destination.
"Thank you, it's been a busy day, do you have a lot of sleeping passengers?" and he smiled at thedriver as he paid his fare.
"Its a compliment to my driving, rock you to sleep." and he laughed and drove away.
Yunlan searched for his door keys relieved to be home, when he suddenly felt a gun pressed to his back even before he opened the door, and being warned to hurry up and step into the house, he did as he was told. Both men walked towards the centre of the reception hall before Yunlan was instructed to stop but not to turn around. Thankfully it sounded as though there was only one person, he was only aware of the sound of single footsteps.
