As the afternoon merged into evening, Detective Black was fuelled by the momentum of her investigation, and as the second day on the case was drawing to a close she wanted to gather further insights from a specific circus performer. Gabriella Giggles, having now been cleared as a suspect, became an essential ally and source of information. Connie invited Gabi to a quiet corner just outside the circus grounds where they took a seat on the steps of the victorian carousel by the river overlooking the neighbouring forest which cast long eerie shadows over them as the sun began to submerge behind the tall trees.

By taking Gabriella Giggles away from the bustling circus tent and trailers, she had hoped Gabriella would feel more free to discuss the intricate relationships within their close-knit community.

"Gabriella," Detective Black started, "now that you're no longer a person of interest, I'd like to understand more about the dynamics among the performers. Can you share your thoughts on the relationship you had with Mr Ortiz, Madame Hattie and Luna Alvarez please?"

Gabriella, still recovering from the relief she was no longer under suspicion, nodded and began to recount her experiences with them.

"Madame Hattie has always been a bit mysterious, you know? It's who she is, it's no act and we love her for that. She's wise and seems to know much more than she lets on, but she has been around here forever. I've had my fortune read a few times, and she is surprisingly accurate," Gabriella admitted.

Connie was listening intently while ferociously making notes, recognising the layers of complexity at the 'Carnival of Curiosity'.

"And Luna," Gabi continued, "she's passionate about her performances. Victor Miguel has always been like a guardian to her, and you could sense a strong connection between them. He will do anything for her. Luna is kind and loyal and will always, despite her younger years be someone you can turn to if in need. As for Mr Ortiz, well he had a vision for the circus, hence why he took over the reins of training us all from Ms Delights. Some agreed with him, and some didn't and the training regime's did take a different direction. There were disagreements, but nothing out of the ordinary."

Connie wanted to know more about Ms Delights and Mr Ortiz as a connection was beginning to arise.
"Why did Mr Ortiz take over the coaching and choreography from Ms Delights? What were his reasons and how was it received?" Gabriella Giggles appeared to reminisce of happier times, "Ms Delights was amazing, passionate and listened to us performers. Her enthusiasm was infectious and her creative visions for the show were phenomenal"
"So why relieve her of this role?" Detective Black tried to understand
"It was never clear and certainly something us performers were not privy too, however we suspect Ralph believed she became too close with us, too friendly and soft. He believed we needed challenging and pushed harder to boost ticket sales."

Connie beginning to build a picture of Mr Ortiz as a hard taskmaster and passionate to drive profits probed further with her questioning about Luna, "Did you notice any tension or conflicts between Miss Alvarez and Mr Ortiz, especially regarding the potential replacement with Madame Felicity Fontaine?"

Gabriella blinked repeatedly, contemplating the question. "There were whispers, rumours about new acts and changes. But Luna loved the circus, and I can't imagine her ever wanting to leave. As for Felicity, well we have heard she is talented, but I didn't think it would lead to these drastic measures."

Connie made more notes in her book of these insights as the binding relationships at the circus were an intricate web of mystery and secrets. The words of Gabriella lingered in the air, Detective Black felt a surge of determination to untangle the hidden shadows that remained.

Gabriella Giggles, the vibrant clown of the circus, somehow still exuded an aura of cheerfulness even in these dark times. Gabi shared more about her life as a performer, her genuine love for clowning and the tight bonds she created with her fellow performers.

"Being a clown, Detective, it's more than just a job; it's who I am now. The laughter, the joy I bring to people's faces, young and old - there's nothing quite like it," Gabriella Giggles expressed, her eyes twinkling and her broad smile highlighting her genuine passion for her craft.
"Ms Delights could see how much I loved it from our time training together, I think this is why she invites me to help on her stall before some shows and during the intermission. She knows it's good for business as children come rushing over to see me, but Jessica can also see how I interact with them and how the joy is reciprocated on both sides."

The conversation flipped, and shifts towards the missing acrobat twins, Gabriella's demeanour now softened. "Felix and Sofia Bauer, the acrobat twins, they were like family. We had this special bond and performing together and sharing the thrill of acrobatics was so fun. It's been really hard not having them around. They brought a unique energy to the circus which was infectious which makes their absence even more troubling.

Connie noticed that the popularity of the Bauer twins was genuine and their disappearance is having a huge impact on them all. It was with Gabi's words that made Connie realise the interconnected tapestry of emotions that weaved its way through the circus community.

One further observation and I will let you make you way back to the circus, Connie wanted to know about the connection and rivalry that Marco and Ralph competed over.
"Regarding Marco the Magnificent and Mr Ortiz," Gabriella began, "they're like fire and ice when it comes to the spotlight of the show. The rivalry is intense and passionate, but there is a strange camaraderie beneath it all. When they're not at each other throats, they share this unspoken understanding on the stage. It's complicated, Detective, but like a dance where they each want to lead."

Connie pondered the dynamics between Marco and Ralph, and couldn't help wonder how the mystery lady from town who was arm in arm with Marco as they entered the local doctors surgery fits in with this relationship.

"Despite their clashes, they're both driven by their love for the 'Carnival of Curiosity', it's in their blood part of their DNA." Gabriella added.

Detective Black knew she was walking a tightrope with the insurmountable evidence she needed to sieve through and was undeterred in her attempts to deliver justice.
