"Tragedy struck soon after Marco's departure." Madame Hattie boomed gloomily. "The circus was plunging into an unforeseen crisis. While the troupe were on tour in Riverdale, America, a devastating fire as you now know tore through the circus grounds, leaving a trail of destruction. As the Circus Chronicle referenced the fire claimed the lives of numerous performers and animals, including the poignant loss, the demise of Hilda Olsen."

Lorenzo's former love and skilled Danish trampolinist and mother of Ralph, sadly was one of seven performers who lost lives that evening as the big top was engulfed in a blazing inferno full of rage with no prejudice to its victims.

"The news of Hilda's tragic demise among many others who were all like family to us hit Lorenzo hard, reopening old wounds and leaving him with profound grief. Distraught by his loss and consumed by emotional turmoil, Lorenzo sadly spiralled into a state of deep despair. The weight of his tragedy coupled with the unresolved emotions led him to a moment of desperate anguish. The belief his son Ralph was also victim to the blaze as he was still missing and presumed dead, drove him to the edge. Resulting in a fateful car crash on a bridge where his life came to a tragic end."

The sequence of these events etched a dark chapter in the history of the Carnival of Curiosity, leaving behind a generational legacy tinged with sorrow and unresolved pain.

Madame Hattie recalling these horrific events, clearly took its toll as she sunk her head into her folded arms on her table and began to sob uncontrollably. Once she had composed herself she muttered "I didn't see it coming, my tarot cards failed me and I failed them. I felt so responsible for what unfolded."

Detective Black reassuringly held Madame Hattie's hand and told her she was blameless. She also informed Madame Hattie she has certainly not failed Ralph Ortiz as her vital revelations would be key pieces of evidence to help find Mr Ortiz's murderer.

"What happened to Ralph as we know he wasn't a victim of the fire" Detective Black enquired just before she stood up to leave.

"The aftermath of the fire and tragic loss of our king and queen of the circus shook our world to it's core." Madame Hattie said as she held up a picture of Lorenzo from the clippings on the table.

"The missing status of young Ralph, amidst the chaos and devastation, added a layer of despair to the already somber atmosphere. With suspicions in some quarters pointing towards Marco as a potential suspect, the emotional toll on the circus deepened, leaving this heavy lingering cloud of uncertainty and mistrust."

As the circus attempted to rebuild itself from the ashes, Rosa Lombardi, Marco's mother and ex-wife of the now deceased Mr Lorenzo Ortiz, returned from no where to take charge.

"What made Rosa return?" Detective Black enquired with a shocked tone in her voice, taking a seat back in front of Madame Hattie once again. "Was she not a suspect for the fire?"

"Good question, detective," Madame Hattie replied "it was me... I went to Monte Sorrento and pleaded with her to return along with Marco. She was having none of it and said her ties had frayed.

"Why?" Connie asked.

"Her resilient spirit, her rightful place as she was so instrumental in the vision that created the Carnival of Curiosity and would still of been the driving force if it wasn't for Lorenzo's infidelity." Madame Hattie announced passionately. "With her son Marco alongside her his determination and energy pushed us to reopen the circus in memory of those that lost their lives, despite the absence of a young Ralph and the looming shadow of suspicions some held."

With Ralph's disappearance casting a long shadow over the circus, the sense of loss, both personal and to the wider circus community remained noticeable. The undercurrent of tensions and suspicions lingered like manikins, the rebuilding process for Rosa and Marco was an arduous journey, fraught with many emotional hurdles. Yet despite the uncertainties Marco and Rosa were determined to resurrect the legacy of the Carnival of Curiosity and breathe new life into its history of triumph and strife.
