Chapter Eleven: Day Three, Day Four: Languages

The third day of their trip to Italy went much the same as the second day with the added bonus of a language lesson. Reborn had found it positively disgraceful that the class of Japanese students couldn't speak Italian, so he gave them a lesson on the basics of the Italian Language. However, the students' hopes of a normal lesson were crushed when their Italian lesson and their self defence lesson had been combined into one. Reborn was the only one amused.

The first thing the class was taught were the swears. Not only for Reborn's own amusement, but also so that the children would know what not to say to someone on the street. It was rather amusing, every spectator would willingly admit, to hear a bunch of middle schoolers cussing at each other. Nezu, on the other hand, was absolutely dreading the letters from parents he'd be getting when they got back to Japan. After the lesson on swear words, Reborn had allowed a twenty minute break for lunch. After the meal, though, is when the students started to complain. Tsuna almost pitied them.

The lesson on the bare basics of the Italian language was accompanied by a lesson in how to throw a proper punch. It was the same lesson Tsuna and Chrome had had the day before while everyone was running, so they were used as examples. They both hated it, but made sure to only complain to each other in whispers covered by the Mist Chrome controlled with commendable proficiency.

For every mistake that was made, the person who made it had to do twenty sit-ups. Halfway between the end of lunch and the beginning of dinner, half the class was out for the count. The ones who lasted the entire time were the athletics students. Reborn was pleasantly surprised to see that. He clicked his tongue, however, at the students who hadn't made it the whole time before giving up. They each had to do thirty push-ups. A lot more lenient than his normal training methods, but these kids weren't training to be in the upper echelon of the Italian Mafia. These kids were being trained to be grunts, whether they knew - or liked - it or not.

By the time dinner rolled around, the class was, again, basically dead on their feet. The very few who weren't - Sawada, Yamamoto, Gokudera, Ryohei, Hibari, Chrome and Tsuna - were glared at - aside from Hibari - in jealousy. Tsuna had been spared the looks because he was a good actor. He was also good at keeping attention off of himself, especially with an attention magnet like Sawada around. That didn't stop Reborn, though.

Dinner itself was an amusing affair to the Vongola. Their visitors weren't given the option of eating in the dining hall. Instead, Reborn had taken them to the back gardens to earn their food. An obstacle course was not ideal for kids who had never had to work for their meal, but they all eventually got to eat. They hadn't been shown any pity, though, and each and every one of them had earned it. The lesson they took to bed with them that night was one about not taking things for granted. Whether they remembered it or not was yet to be seen.

Tsuna, for all intents and purposes, had been doing his best to blend in perfectly with his classmates throughout the entire day. He'd had to fight to survive when he was young, so the physical stuff came easy to him. He pretended it didn't. While he was certain he'd been born in Japan, his first language was Italian. He messed up on purpose. He knew Reborn and Sawada and Vongola Nono all had the idea that he was faking, but he'd only allowed Chrome to know his fluency in Italian and his physical prowess.

His report to Shoichi and the Varia at the end of the day had started to read more like a mission report or brief. No one mentioned it, though. The normal chaos that was their conversations took up a good hour of his night before someone dismissed them all to sleep or work. When he put his phone away and turned his back to the wall, he felt Reborn's eyes on him again. It was still as creepy as the first time Sun-chan had set his eyes on him, but at least the Sun Arcobaleno wasn't sitting on his pillow again. Tsuna was just glad he didn't have any strange dreams again.
