200 miles off the Chinese coast, a helicopter is flying toward an old oil rig station in the middle of the ocean, which is being reconstructed to become a top modern research facility. The pilot lands on the platform, and as the passenger exits the chopper, Dr. Zhang the owner of the company that works in the facility goes to greet him.

"Are we living the dream here, or what?" The man smiles brightly when he sees Zhang.

"Welcome to Mana One, Mr. Morris." Zhang holds his hand to him, who looks at it with an unimpressed look.

"Get that thing away from me. What are you doing? Come on, bring it in." Morris smiles and embrace the older man in a hug. "There we go."

"Good to see you again Mr. Morris, this way please." He gestures for him to get off the platform with him.

"Hey, you always smell so nice. What is that, sandalwood?" Morris randomly asks.

They walk off the platform and down the stairs.

"It's impressive so far, I'll say." Morris compliments while looking around at the rig.

A woman with a young girl walks toward them.

"Oh, here they are. Do you remember my daughter, Suyin? Our chief marine biologist." Zhang introduces the woman approaching.

"Hi." Suyin shakes hands with Morris.

He tries to say something in Chinese. Suyin speaks back in Chinese to her father, confused about Morris.

"Sorry, what was that? I didn't catch it." Morris asks. Zhang and his daughter look at each other, unsure.

"She says she likes your hat." The little girl beside her mother says.

"Yeah." Suyin confirms.

The little girl smiles brightly at the man, making him a little confused and uncomfortable.

"Let's go."
"Why don't we go. Yeah, lets go." Zhang and Morris say, speaking over each other.

Together the four of them walk to the elevator.

"Granddaughter is a pistol, huh?" Morris states as he gets into the elevator with them.

He looks around the old elevator.

"Okay. What do have we here?.. this is really.. ugly. You know I realise we're under construction and everything, but I really think that a world class research institute, deserves a world class entrance." He tells Zhang, disappointed.

"Yeah, I couldn't agree more." He answers as the elevator door opens.

Turning around, Morris is met with a fancy modern hallway, with huge glass walls, displaying the beautiful undersea view around them.

"Wow." Morris says, in awe at the sight.

"Welcome to the O-level." Zhang says.

"Nice."

"This is our central hub, from which all researchers will access all five laboratories, once it's finished." Zhang inform him.

"Wow." Morris looks out the glass wall, all the creatures swimming around, fishes, stingrays, along with two whales. "Oh, look at that. That's not something you see everyday."

They admire the view for a few seconds, before Morris speaks again.

"Did you have those whales here on cue?" He smirks accusingly at Suyin.

"I might've lured them with some whale songs." She answers and they chuckle. "This is Lucy, and her daughter Gracie." She points to the whale and then the smaller one swimming beside her.

"Incredible."

...

Zhang opens the door for them. "Here we are, come on in. Follow me quickly, I hope we are on time."

"Oh, wow." Morris says, looking around the room.

"I'd like you to meet our engineering sub designer, Jax." Zhang introduces a girl sitting at her workstation.

"Hey, doc." She acknowledges Zhang.

"Hello." Morris reach out his hand for her to shake. She just look at it and then him, not making a move to shake it.

"Hey." Is all she says.

"Dr. Heller. Our medical officer." Zhang goes on to introduce, walking further into the room. Heller stands up to shake his hand.

"Nice to meet you, you're like bones, huh?" Morris jokes and follow Zhang to the next person.

"Dj pilots our remote explorer." He says and Dj stands from his seat when Morris approach him.

"How's it going?" Morris shakes his hand.

"You're my first billionaire." Dj tells him.

Zhang turns and gestures to a man.

"And of course, Mac, our station chief."

Mac turns as he hears his name and reach out his hand for Mr. Morris to shake.

"Mr. Morris, just in time." Mac tells him.

"So I keep hearing." He says, confused as to what he's in time for.

"Take that." Mac hands them earpieces.

"Just in time for what?" Morris asks as he puts in his earpiece.

"Good morning, Mr. Morris." Your voice comes through the coms.

"Yn, our mission pilot." Zhang introduces you, pointing to the screen.

The screen shows live footage of you. You're sitting in the pilot seat of a sub, with two men further behind you at their own stations.

"Hi, Mr. Morris. Welcome onboard. It's good to have you." You wave to him through the camera.

"Hey, how's it going down there?" He asks you. "Where'd you learn how to pilot a sub?"

"I spent time with a certain whale-saving environmental group that shall remain unnamed for legal reasons." You smirk, winking to the camera.

You grew up with a pilot as a dad, but he piloted pretty much everything else than a sub, he taught you and your childhood friend and neighbour, Rigas, to pilot everything from an early age. You and her got the certificates to pilot almost anything together, you could pilot planes, helicopters, etc.

The two of you did everything together as best friends when you were just kids to young adults but then went on different paths, though you still stayed in contact. She went on to do more military work as a pilot and you had wanted to help save the oceans, there in that group you just mentioned, you learned to pilot a sub.

After that, you used your sub piloting skills to help out a science team in the Philippines for work, a lot like this team on Mana One, but not the same.

From your time in the Philippines, you also met Jonas. (Check out Bonus chapters.)

Later on, you helped teach Jonas to pilot submarines. Which he then used in his line or work.
(In my version he used to be a first responder, I don't know what he actually did, but hence the rescue mission in the beginning I just wrote it like that. I also wanted it so that she's the one that taught him to pilot a sub.)
His team went on to get licensed so they could do underwater rescues. They did extreme rescues, like accidents up in mountains or out on the sea in bad weather or something. And when they got license, they could also do deep water rescues.
