The Meg (Jonas x reader)

Chapter 4

"It's Yn."

Jonas instantly sits up straight in the couch. His careless smile is gone in a second at his friend's use of tone when saying your name. Mac puts a recorder down on the table.

"This happened this morning." Mac starts the recording.

"Oh, my god."

"Let's get out of here. Blow the tanks!"

"I'm trying. It's not working!"

Jonas gets an extremely uncomfortable feeling at your exclamation, in one way it's feels unbelievably good to hear your voice for the first time in so long, but in the other way it's the worst feeling hearing you in distress.

"It's not starting!"

"Mac!"

"Whole system's down!"

"Oh, my god.. Oh, my god. Guys.. there's something down here.. Jonas was right.. Jonas was right! Do you cop-" The feed goes out and the recording stops.

"Yn and her crew are trapped below 11,000 meters. I fear they may have encountered the same species you did down there." Zhang tells Jonas. "I have divers with less experience willing to go. But i feel i owe it to my crew to give this rescue the best chance of-"

He doesn't get the chance to finish as Jonas is already on his feet moving to pack hurriedly and leave.

"What?" Zhang asks Mac.

"We should've just started with telling him she was I trouble.." Mac says annoyed with himself for wasting time.

...

You sit on the floor of the Origin.

"You okay, Yn?" Toshi asks, looking at you concerned, seeing you staring into nothing, lost in thought.

"Hm? Oh, yeah. I'm good."

"You sure?" He asks.

"Yeah, I was just thinking." You tell him, giving him a small unconvincing smile.

"About?" He pushes and you sigh, looking at Wall who is humming to himself as he usually does when he is concentrating.

"Jonas.. I'm pretty sure what's out there is what he once encountered, but no one believed him." You take a deep breath, trying to get back to work.

"You think he'll come for us?" Toshi asks.

"I don't know." You answer.

"You miss him?" Toshi ask, knowing he isn't in your life now. It takes a moment before you answer.

"Very much." You tell him, your voice almost cracking.

"Why isn't he around anymore?"

He remembers one time he borrowed your laptop for something and your background picture was of you and another man smiling at you, as you laughed. You were in a wetsuit with diving gear, just come up from the dive. He had asked you who it was and you just said Jonas and moved your attention elsewhere, not explaining.

"He stopped diving. And Heller drove him away from us. Then he started drinking." You tell him. "I tried to help him and be there. But he didn't let me.. I just wish.. I.." You cough awkwardly trying to hold back tears.

"You loved him." You look at Toshi, he looks at your face. "No. You love him." You don't say anything, silently confirming his statement.

"We weren't dating if that's what you're thinking." You tell him, realising how it sounded.

"But you wanted too?" Toshi asks.

You don't answer making Toshi smile at you confirming again. You roll your eyes at his smirk.

"He made it clear he didn't want me around anymore, when he screamed at me to leave him alone one night and never come back for him. I had come to pick him up from the bar for the fifth time that same week."

"You think that was because he didn't want you, or that he didn't want you to see him like that?" He asks you and you look at him confused.

"I, uh, I don't know.. I never told him how I feel, felt, uh.." You mumble with a frown and he looks up from his notebook wide eyed.

"You never told him?"

"No."

"Why?" He asks and you shrug.

"Never found the right time to tell him, and then he yelled at me to leave and never come back."

Toshi stays silent for a long moment now.

"He will come for you." Toshi just says.

He just has a gut feeling, about the picture he saw of you two, how Jonas looked at you. You look at him confused and are about to ask him what makes him think that, but Wall takes your attention.

"Yn, hand me that hexa key." Wall says, completely oblivious to the conversation.

You hand him the tool and he thanks you.

"Okay. If we can short out the firewall, i can probably reboot the computers." He then says. "Okay, try it now."

You try it, and it works. Sighing in relief you lean back while the boys cheer.

"Auxiliary powers back. Heaters are online. There's no way that we'll get the engine started, but we might be able to get the ballast tanks back."

"What are you doing? Taking notes?" Wall asks Toshi who's writing in his notebook.

"Letter to my wife."

Wall and you look at him before glancing at each other with a sad look.

"Just in case." He adds, seeing your expressions. You smile and nod at him.

"Hey, we got this." Wall tells him. "Step by step. Come on. Give me that fighting octopus." He reaches out his fist to bump it with his.

While they're having their moment you turn the light on.

"See? Works every time." Wall says happily.

Suddenly a thought comes to your mind. The creature hasn't made a move on you ever since your power went off. And now, you realise why.

"We gotta can the lights." You say.

Then before you can do it something hits the sub again, throwing you over each other and around in the sub.

'IMPACT ALERT' it notifies on the screen up on Mana One, getting Dj's attention.

You get up from the uncomfortable positions you landed in, assessing your body for damage, not finding any, other than feeling beaten and bruised.

"Turn out the light." You say, breathing heavily.

"What's wrong, Jax?" Suyin asks her.

"Now they're leaking oxygen. They've got a couple hours. Maybe more."

"I'm going." Suyin then says.

"No." Jack argues.

"Wait, what?" Dj asks.

"I'll take one of the gliders, grab the Origin and tow her up." She tells them.

"Wait! If the Origins ballast tanks blow you're gonna die, too." Jax says getting up her seat.

"We have to try."
