Angie stared at me as I ate my lunch that I bought at McDonald's. Yummy, french fries and two cheeseburgers. What more could I ask for? Another soda would be great since I was about to finish the one that I had. I could already hear the ice. I smiled before taking a bite from the burger. Angie was staring too much but with a questioning expression. God, she needed to stop that. It was amusing to me though.
"What?" I couldn't take it anymore.
"I see that you have lots of time now," she glanced at my food.
Yup, now that I was not Mia's... erm, Ms. LoVecchio's T.A, I had time to buy lunch. Why did it sound like Angie was complaining? Wasn't she happy that I brought her some too? Harry was appreciating it. He was even looking inside the bottom of the bag for more fries. Come on, it had been two weeks since the breakup. Angie needed to get over it. I was.
"Yeah, isn't it great?" I grinned while Harry slipped a fry into my mouth. I thanked him with a smile before chewing.
"Aren't you worried?" Angie questioned. I shook my head no. "Riley, you can smile and pretend all you want but we all know that you're heartbroken," she sounded like a broken record. I rolled my eyes at that. For the past two weeks, Angie had been wanting me to talk about my real feelings. And to be completely honest, it was irritating the fuck out of me. Sometimes, Angie just needed to butt out and let me be.
"I'm perfectly fine," I struck another smile. "Look, the sky is beautiful, enjoy the day," I advised her. I was enjoying what I had, which was not much. Why couldn't she just let me handle things my own way? Sure, I appreciated that she cared and worried but I needed to leave everything in the past.
"Riley, you're doing it again. You're avoiding the subject," Harry teamed up with Angie. To think that I had him on my side. Guess not.
"Chew on this," I pressed a burger into his mouth, wanting him to shut up. Fortunately, that distracted him. Thank god.
"Seriously, Riley," Angie insisted. "The days are passing fast," she panicked. They were for her, not for me. They became painfully slow but I could not admit that. "As more time passes by, the easier it's becoming for M to live without you," she put it in my head.
"I hope you're right," I replied sincerely.
"What the hell?" Harry swallowed down the food. "Don't you care?" his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Dude, she needs to move on, just like I am," I shrugged, not wanting to elaborate. In an attempt to end the conversation, I bit another chunk of my cheeseburger.
However, that did not work. These friends insisted on the subject. Sighing deeply, I continued eating.
"What if she starts dating someone else, that won't bother you?" Harry questioned, not being able to believe my words.
I thought about it. Of course it would. It would break my heart. Jealousy would come back to me. Seeing her with someone else would be weird. Yet, I had no say in it.
"She's single, she can do whatever she wants. I just want her to be happy," I answered. I stopped to think about what I just said. Single, it wandered in my head. Was she really? Just then, I saw her walking with Ms. Damon. They were smiling and talking. For the past week, it had practically been confirmed that they were dating. Angie and Harry noticed me staring, so they stared at them too. "Isn't it funny when your ex starts dating the one person who they told you not to worry about," I commented.
My friend turned back to me. "See, it does bother you," Angie insisted. "Who says they're dating anyway?" she did not want to believe it.
"Everyone says they are," I shrugged.
