Third Person P.O.V
Sitting by the hospital bedside, with her hands folded on the mattress, Mia rested her chin on them. Staring at Riley, as if that was going to wake her up. Wishing, she stared and stared for hours, stared hard, as if that was going to be the magical power to awake her. The power of love. Wake up, Mia's eyes scanned Riley's face, desperately looking for any signs of movement.
It had been a long week. One week of desperately waiting for Riley to open her eyes. A week of sleepless nights. A week of seeing no results. Only seeing Riley unconscious. The more time that passed, the less hope there was. Nothing was progressing. It hurt Mia to see the days pass, yet, for Riley, it remained the same. For the rest of the world, life was happening every second. But for Riley, time had stopped. She was missing in life. These days could never be brought back for her.
"Riley, open your eyes," a tear strolled down Mia's cheek as she stroked Riley's hair. "Riley, I'm sorry," more tears slid down her face. Guiltiness invaded through Mia all over again. "I should have never lied to you," she looked down as tears dropped to the ground. "But I did, I lied by telling you that Ms. Damon and I were dating," Mia confessed, even though Riley was unconscious. Unaware of what was being said. "We never dated," she cried her eyes out. "It was all a lie, only to make you believe that I was over you but I wasn't. I still love you," Mia reached for Riley's hand and kissed it, keeping her lips pressed on it.
All she wanted was for Riley to respond to her touch. To her caresses. She was dying for one of her gentle caresses, a simple touch. With tears blurring her vision, Mia stared at Riley's hand, wondering if it'd ever touch her again on its own.
The room door squeaked open. Mia looked up from Riley's hand and turned her direction to see who was entering. It was Marilyn. Slowly and quietly, she walked in.
"Ms. LoVecchio, may we speak, please?" she requested.
"Call me Mia, please, and of course," she agreed.
"Okay, Mia," Marilyn rephrased. She grabbed a chair and scooted it by Mia's chair. Before starting to speak, Marilyn took one good look at her daughter. Tears whelmed in her eyes but she contained them. It immensely hurt her to see Riley this way. The thought of her never awakening was destroying her. Marilyn made a big effort to look away from Riley, seeing her in this condition was too overwhelming. "Um," she recollected herself. "I think we need to have that talk now," she brought up a conversation that had been put aside for the past week.
That same day when Riley was brought to the hospital, Mike informed Marilyn about the relationship that Riley had with Mia. Fortunately, Angie and Harry explained what they knew. The rest was up to Mia. Though, due to the situation, the conversation was put aside, both women agreed to it.
"I think so too," Mia was extremely nervous but she figured that it had to be done. She wanted and needed to get over it. Marilyn deserved to know. After all, she was Riley's mother. Mia stayed silent, not wanting to go first. She preferred to be asked, and simply answer with honesty.
"Okay," Marilyn took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "Well, according to Riley's friend, it was not just a hookup," she started off. "According to them, the relationship was real?" it was sort of said as a statement, rather a question.
Mia nodded, "That's right," she confirmed. She sniffled a little while wiping tears off her cheeks. "I was not taking advantage of her, I swear. What we had was real, and it still is," she assured, really wanting that to be clarified. "I love Riley," Mia glanced at her, still hoping to see any signs of her awakening. No luck though.
Marilyn processed what Mia was telling her. Even though she appreciated the love that Mia had for her daughter, she still could not help but to worry. There was an age difference. Mia was the teacher's assistant when Riley was in the sixth grade, and Marilyn could not shake that out of her head. Though, she also remembered reading Riley's emails about her teacher. About how much she admired her. And how nice she was, and how she helped her get through her problems. Also, for the past week, she had seen how much Mia worried and cared for Riley. All the devoted hours. Every morning, she'd come and visit as much as she could. Then right after school, she'd come and spend her whole day here, sometimes even spending the nights with her. Marilyn was too confused, whether allowing Mia to be close that way with Riley... that's if she'd even wake up.
