** Dannie's pov **

Sitting in my New York apartment completely alone was something that I was used to. Being completely swaddled in a thick fluffy blanket on my sofa, I was trying my absolute hardest to stay up and watch the Singapore Grand Prix on tv.

"Come on just two more hours and then you can go to sleep." I muttered to myself.

And that is what I did. Well at least for the next hour and a half. Apparently I had completely fallen asleep for the last thirty-ish minutes of the race. Waking up just about an hour after the race ended by my phone blaring from its spot on my coffee table.

Once my hand was in reach of the device I didn't even bother grabbing it before I completely answered the call. Placing it on speaker I was immediately greeted with a large amount of cheering coming through the speaker.

"Dannie! Did you see it?" Lando's excited voice broke through the cheers.

Luckily for me right as he said that the channel, that was still going over the race, showed a couple of highlights from the race and podium. He looked so happy to be up on the podium with Carlos and Lewis. This was such a big moment for everyone. Max hadn't won a race for once this season.

"I did, I did! God, I am so happy for you Lan!" I hurried out.

It was true, with how the second half of the season was going so far most McLaren fans were gaining more confidence with their favorite team. But more importantly the world was finally seeing just how good of a driver Lando actually was.

The sound of the driver stuttering slightly drew my attention back to the call, "I-I really wish that you were here with me. But I will be the first person to listen to your album since you wouldn't let me have a sneak peak." his voice held a fake disappointed tone.

"Lando Norris." his cackle interrupted me, " Go and celebrate with you dad and the team alright?" I spoke with a bright smile.

"But I want to talk to you." my heart felt like it actually skipped a beat at his words.

"Don't you have media to do or something? I don't want to be the reason you get a ridiculous fine." I said while running a tired hand through my hair.

A familiar voice calling for his name over the cheering made Lando release a small sigh, "Zak is calling me. I promise that I will call you when I'm done with everything. Bye Dan Dan!" he hurried out with obvious excitement due to being second on the podium.

Watching as the call ended screen flashed up, I leaned back into the cushions of the couch. Even after the short little power nap the exhaustion felt even heavier than before.

It was most certainly time for bed.

** time skip **

After realizing that I had practically no food in my apartment, I decided that I would head down to one of my favorite little cafes that was just a few blocks away from my place. It was always a place I could find some peace and quiet which was hard to find just a few blocks away from Central Park.

My feet quickly led me into the small shop and was met with the small ring of the bell above the main door. There were just two people ahead of me in the line leaving me the perfect amount of time to decide on what I wanted to order.

Well that was until somebody was whispering my name from behind me, "Dannie!".

The voice sent chills down my body. My blood ran cold and almost every single one of my senses heightened. Everything in my body was telling me to run away. Run away and don't look back until I reached my apartment.

"Come on, you can't ignore me. I know you hear me." the voice continued.

My lungs expanded with an extremely labored breath before I turned around, "I'm not. There is nothing that I would ever want to talk to you about." I spoke out whilst trying to keep a calm outer exterior.

Out of all of the places in the world, the one cafe that I loved was the place that he had to come in and ruin it.

There he was in the flesh, Josh O'Connor, my ex. Standing completely straight with a bright smile on his face like nothing was wrong. The day before my album releases and here stands the man that almost broke me down into pure nothingness.

"C'mon, let's go talk outside. Please." his voice was certainly growing more and more frustrated with the little he spoke.

Glancing around the room I could feel the glares and staring of the patrons settling on the both of us. So with what little amount of dignity I had left, I started walking towards the exit and back out to the street.

Josh stared at me once we reached the outside of the cafe waiting for me to say something. If he wanted to talk to me then he would be the one talking. I could wait here all day.

He weaved a hand through his hair, "Aren't you going to say something?" he asked, clearly irritated.

Scoffing and chuckling sarcastically, "Aren't you? You're the one who wanted to interrupt my day and ask to speak to me." my body language closed off as I continued to speak.

In pure frustration the man in front of me raised his hands in the air causing me to flinch back into the wall behind me. With one single action I was taken back to every single moment where he had raised his hands to me before. Nothing could stop the tears that were starting to collect in my eyes.

"Oh- You're kidding me!" he laughed maniacally, "Did you really think that I would hit you?" he questioned with a raised eyebrow.

My entire body felt like it was shaking a mile per second. Every single square inch of my skin felt like it was burning. Stumbling back over my feet I wanted to put as much distance between us as possible. A short breath into my lungs and I shook my head, "You did hit me. Everyone knows it. The bruises and cuts might've gone away but the memories never do.".

Josh tried to take a step closer to me before my body flinched away yet again. I watched his eyes roll into his head, "I can't sit here and listen to your lies! God!" he ranted before storming off.

Almost as soon as he was about three feet away from me the tears that were welling up in my eyes finally broke free. Hurrying away from the building, all I wanted to do was get home and never leave. Not for a long time that is.

Out of all of the days that this could've happened.
