Xander's POV
My meltdown was yesterday. After I woke up I apologize to the twins. They were more worried about me which made me feel even worse. Things are back to normal between us now. Dad lectured us about sticking together through adversity since we're all we have.
I'm currently alone in my room and my phone is going off for the eighth time today. Kai has been calling and texting me nonstop. I haven't answered. I'm not sure what to tell her. I get a notification that she left a voicemail. I listen to it to see if she's mad.
"I swear to the Gods if you don't answer you won't have a girlfriend!"
My phone starts going off and I answer this time. Nausea creeps its way into my stomach. Jesse picks up on my anxiety and licks my fingers
"Hey?"
"That's all you have to say? We had sex for the first time and you ditched me the second it was over and have been ignoring me since."
"I'm sorry, I'm going through a lot and I just wasn't ready."
"What do you mean?"
"I wasn't in the right headspace for sex but you really wanted to so I went along."
"Xander are you serious? Why didn't you tell me? I'd never want to force you."
"You get so disappointed when I say no and I didn't want you to push me away. I had a really rough day and I just needed you to hold me." I confessed
"Our first time was supposed to be special. How could you?" She sounded hurt
"I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. I'm the one in the wrong. I put so much pressure on you that you didn't feel like you could say no again. I'm so sorry."
"You don't have to apologize. I should've said no."
"Xander hang up the phone." I jumped at dad's voice
"Uhm I have to go Kai."
"Can we meet up after your dad falls asleep again. I want to apologize in person."
She didn't know she was on speaker
"You're on speaker." Dad told her
"Sorry Mr. Volkov." She said before hanging up
"How much did you hear?"
"Enough to know you're going to break up with this girl." He decided
"But dad-"
"You didn't consent to sleeping with your girlfriend. She pressured you into sex by kissing and telling to your friends. I should've stepped in sooner honestly."
"I didn't say no." I explained
"I've never fucked a woman who didn't explicitly tell me yes. She took advantage of your vulnerability. She's lucky I don't press charges."
"Dad please calm down. Any other day I would've slept with her."
"But last night you didn't want to sleep with her. I don't give a rats ass about any other day."
"I love her." I told him
"Xander this relationship is so unhealthy. You have to see it." He pleaded
"It's not and come August we'll be broken up. Can't you just let this slide?"
"Can I let someone sexually assaulting my son slide? Let me think... yeah it's a no for me."
"Please dad just give her one more chance?" I begged
"No."
"Why are you punishing me?"
"Why don't you respect yourself?" He challenged
"Can you get out of my room?"
"Break up with her before I get involved." He said before shutting the door
I grabbed my phone I texted her to meet me downstairs from her apartment in twenty minutes.
I put on my shoes and snuck out the front door. No one was in the living room so it was a clean escape. I got in my car and picked up Kai'leia.
"Hey." She hugged me
"Let's go to our spot."
I drove us to an empty parking lot of a park in Long Island. It's an hour drive but far away enough for us to get alone time
"Was your dad upset with you?"
"He wants me to break up with you." I answered honestly
"So does my mom and now I kind of agree."
"What?"
"You're a great boyfriend but I'm not even an okay girlfriend. I cross so many of your boundaries and you just let me. We really aren't good for each other. We were great friends and I think we should go back to that. I have so much love for you and I want you in my life. If anyone asks I'll be honest and tell them that I took advantage of you one too many times. I'll tell them we both decided to stay friends."
"I don't want to break up." I told her
"But we should. My mom over heard when I was talking to my cousin about us and tore me a new one. She says you're too good for me and that I'm lucky you put up with all my crap. That made me realize how toxic I was to you. You should be in a relationship with someone you can say no to. Our entire relationship you just went along with what I wanted. I should've noticed earlier so we could work on our relationship but now it's far too late."
"I'll drive us back then."
"Since we're already out here we can make the most of our last night together." She suggested
"No." I told her
"Now that we're broken up you're already able to say no to me." She smiled sadly
We drove back in silence. When we reached her apartment building I kissed her one last time and watched her disappear into the building. I drove home and attempted to enter the house quietly. To my misfortune dad was sitting on the couch waiting for me.
"How was your last drive?" He asked holding out his hand
I walked over and handed him my precious keys before answering
"Long and quiet."
"Did you tell her?"
"Mhm and she agreed with you. Isn't that fucking great? Her mom also agreed that she was an awful girlfriend and told her to end things. She's already told our friend's about it. And she was honest about it so now they're all pissed at her and blowing up my phone. Are you happy? This is what you wanted right? For me to be embarrassed and alone?" I asked him through tears
He sighed and stood up. Despite me being six feet tall he still towered over me.
"I'm sorry." He hugged me
"This fucking sucks dad."
"I know Sunny."
"Everything is going to shit and I don't know what to do."
"Life is shitty sometimes. Its important to try and focus on what really matters to you. Don't let it overwhelm you but if it does, reach out to family or friends. Let them support you so you don't drown. I know it doesn't feel like it right now but this will pass like all hardships. And like always, you'll come out an even stronger person."
"I'm scared."
"Of what?"
"I don't want him to hurt me again."
"He can't hurt you anymore."
