Beyoncé's POV

Under an umbrella she strode, shielding her upper body while her feet soaked in rain. As I left the mall, I couldn’t help but wonder where she was headed. It was late around 9pm, maybe she was off to catch a taxi outside the mall.

I wanted to ask if I could be of any assistance, but I knew she’d be reluctant to take a ride from a stranger. That wouldn’t stop me from trying.

As she was walking I’m assuming to where she gets a taxi, I pulled over besides her. She dared not look my way, “excuse me, hi” she pretended not to hear me and looked everywhere but my way. “can I help you?” I tried again. I could not get a clear look into her eyes as she avoided my gaze. “I could just wait with you until your transportation arrives, if it is okay with you”. I spoke rather loudly as rain was masking my voice, “okay” she said silently.

I expected her to get in the car instead she looked around with wondering eyes, I guess for a taxi. That’s when I realized she didn’t get what I meant. “you can wait in the car” I tried. “I’m okay” she whispered and I nodded.

5 minutes went by, no sign of a taxi
and the rain continued to pour. I don’t know what it was about her but I couldn’t just leave and the last thing I wanted was to freak her out. Still in the car, I searched for an umbrella in the backseat and got out.

I stood next to her “hi again, my name is Beyonce” I searched for her eyes, she finally looked at me and smiled.
“Onika” she said with a shaky voice, she must be freezing. “let’s wait in the car, you could catch a cold out here” she nodded, to which I opened the passenger door for her and got in while I held both our umbrellas. I made a quick dash to the driver door and closed the umbrellas before
getting in and tossing them in the back. She looked unsettled “the heater is on; you should be warm in a minute”

“Why are you doing this?” was her first question. “just trying to help, are taxi’s available at this hour?” she looked at me trying to figure me out. “yes...” her phone rang, while she answered I decided to text my daughter.

Me- Hey baby

Blue- hi ma

That was quick, I looked up from my screen to see Onika still on the phone.

Me- you good hon?

Blue- I’m good, what time will you be home?

Me- something came up and I will be home a bit late tonight.

Blue- okay

I sighed deeply to which caused Onika to look at me. She must had ended her call while I was texting. “looks like there are no taxi’s tonight, how about I drive you home. Unless you have
someone on the way to fetch you”. I assumed that was the reason for the phone call. “okay” I sighed again and got a look from her. “or maybe not” she is confusing the hell out of me.

Does she need a ride or not? “listen I don’t make a habit of inviting strangers in my car and giving them a ride. Do you need a ride home? If so, give me your address” I handed her my phone and let her type the address on the navigation app.

She stayed approximately 20 minutes away from the mall. While on the way, she kept her eyes on the road and nowhere else. Since there was no conversation between the two of us, I took the opportunity to take a call using the car.

Calling *Blue*

Me- hon

Blue- ma

Me- are you mad at me?

Blue- no

Me-really?

Blue- yes

Me- yes, so you are mad

Blue- I see what you did ha!

Me- I’ll make it up to you alright?

Blue- yes ma

I ended the call and caught Onika side staring at me, too focused on the road I said nothing. 10 minutes into the drive she decided to speak “thank you” I glanced at her quickly and back on the road “not much of a talker?” she giggled “yes” her reply came quickly.

We finally arrived at her place and she was asleep, I had to stifle a laugh cause her mouth was slightly opened. Not wanting to waste any time I tapped on her arm “Onika, wake up” and just like that she was awake “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to-” I cut her off “it’s okay, we’ve arrived” she looked outside and smiled. “thank you Beyonce, I don’t know how to repay you” I did this out of the goodness of my heart “it’s fine, but you could give me your numbers and if you happen to need a ride next time, I’d be happy to help” I smiled “I can’t ask that of you” come to think of it I hardly know her what was I thinking. “I should go” it was still raining so I grabbed her umbrella from the back seat and handed it to her, after that she was quickly out of my car with a ‘thank you and goodbye’ escaping her lips.

When I arrived home, I wanted nothing but to shower and snuggle with my daughter, too lazy to eat I grabbed a bar snack and went to my bedroom. I found Blue sprawled in the middle of the bed, I bent down to kiss her cheeks. After taking a shower, I settled in bed and Blue rolled over to my side on the left. I held her tightly as she nestled her face on my chest and opened her eyes slightly “I’m here, go back to sleep” she closed her eyes and I kissed her temple. I can’t imagine life without her.
