It was our 4-month anniversary and I booked a weekend getaway, the surprised look when I gave her the hotel booking made it all worth it.
Our relationship ran smoothly, we’ve yet to meet each other’s kids, but I planned on changing that after our weekend away.
Our destination, Kruger’s drop was a two-hour drive and we planned on leaving Friday night after work and return Sunday afternoon.
“Wow, this place is amazing” Onika admired the view from our hotel room, we had arrived an hour ago and took showers separately before settling on the balcony. “I agree” I hugged her from behind and savored the moment.
Saturday morning after breakfast we went on a safari drive, Onika couldn’t contain her excitement over all the wild animals we sighted and seeing her this happy made me happy. I had a couple’s massage booked for later and we still had some other activities for the day.
It was Sunday morning and Onika was still sleeping, it must had been the message she had. Breakfast arrived shortly after I ordered it, I waited for Onika to wake up and join me for breakfast.
“Ready to leave?” I asked Onika as I put the last luggage in the car boot, she only nodded and got in the passenger seat. The ride back home was silent but not in a good way, I turned the radio on and focused on the road.
I parked outside her apartment after a two-hour ride, “need me to stay a bit?” she looked up from her phone. “No, I’ll be fine” she replied, “need a day off for tomorrow?” I didn't know what was going on with her, she was fine during the trip, had I done something out of line? “no”. I got out of the car and helped her carry her bags, she stood at the door, “I’ll see you tomorrow” Onika said, the whole thing was weird especially when I tried to kiss her goodbye and she turned her face leaving me to catch her cheek instead, but I left nonetheless.
I was in my office Monday morning when Rihanna decided to pay me a surprise visit for lunch. “I brought lunch” she came in waving the food up, Onika was on the couch already eating her lunch. She had been on a foul mood the entire morning and I just let her be. “I didn't know you had company” Rihanna eyed Onika who looked away, “She is my PA and we were working on something just now” I was quick to reply. Onika looked at me with a frown and got up, “I’ll have lunch somewhere else” she left in a hurry.
“Okay, what did I walk into?” Rihanna and her crazy sixth sense. “oh hush you, give me my lunch” she laughed and I shook my head slightly. Rihanna left soon after lunch and Onika refused to talk to me for the rest of the day and we were at work anyway so I let her be.
Driving Onika home every afternoon after work was a joy but today was different, she refused to talk to me. “How long are you planning on not talking to me?” I asked her while my eyes stayed focused on the road but she ignored me. I was getting impatient with her, but wouldn’t
start an argument while driving.
I tried calling Onika before going to sleep that night but she was set on ignoring me, so I sent her text;
Me- did I do something wrong?
I was second guessing my actions, what could possibly have her acting out?
She was online but didn’t reply. Since Sunday night she had been distant and I still had no idea why.
Friday
Onika only spoke to me if it was work related and refused to let me take her home during the week. However, today I was through with her behavior. Today she wouldn’t get her way, “we need to talk, I’ll wait for you in my car” I left the office and waited for her in the parking lot, surprisingly she followed me.
I parked outside her place and she was about to get out but I held her hand before she opened the door. “Let go off me Beyonce!” she shouted, well at least she spoke. “what is your problem?” I remained calm. “my kids are waiting on me” she said irritated. I motioned for her to go, when it involved kids I always gave in.
Blue was in a good mood when I got home and I suddenly forgot all about my issues. “Ma, your phone is ringing” Blue yelled from downstairs, I must had left it there when we were eating dinner. “Who is it?” I yelled back, the house is big but quiet, so I could hear Blue in my bedroom with the door opened. “your girlfriend” she yelled while coming up. Any other time I
would had laughed at her knowing my girlfriend without me telling her.
She gave me my phone with a smirk, “close the door on your way out”.
