Yuka:

I groaned and tried to turn without waking Ryo but failed miserably.

"Yuka! You're awake!" Her voice cracked from sleep and dehydration. I reached over and grabbed the glass of water the healer had given me and gave it to Ryo. She took it gratefully and I was surprised she didn't force me to drink it.

She placed the glass back and turned to me. Her smile from before was gone, replaced by her poker face that drives me crazy because I can't figure out what she is thinking.

"I sincerely apologize for my behavior, Princess. It was uncalled for and put you in danger, please forgive me." She bowed her head and I groaned. Ryo looked up at me in surprise.

"You're back to calling me Princess?" I asked disappointedly.

"I never should have stopped." She smiled sadly and then dropped it, but thankfully her poker was gone.

I opened my mouth to respond but a female voice cut through the air, stopping me from continuing the conversation. "Well I see our two travelers have awakened."

I sat up and looked at the woman who had walked in. She was a little taller than me but shorter than Ryo, with long blonde locks and light blue eyes above a pretty smile.

It took me a moment to notice that her attention was pointed toward Ryo and only Ryo. My skin began to boil.

"I hope you have slept well. My name is Kita." This time Kita looked at me but she also gave Ryo a pointed glance. I looked over at Ryo who was now sitting next to me, her poker face back.

"Yuki, may I see your wound?" I looked over at Ryo confusedly but she just shook her head, telling me to play along.

"I guess so..." I shifted so she could peel back the bandage around my shoulder. Kita smiled and nodded before reaching down to peel the bandage off the side of my ribs.

She frowned and looked over at Ryo before jerking her head toward the door, signaling her to leave.

Ryo sighed and gave my hand a reassuring squeeze before exiting the room.

I frowned and surprised a whimper as Kita followed.

I was alone.

I had never told anybody, but I hated being alone. I felt tears prick my eyes and I did my best to hold them back. I drew my knees up to my chest and began rocking myself, ignoring the stinging pain from ribs.

Ryo:

I entered Yuka's room after finishing my talk with Kita and found Yuka in a fetal position, her eyes shut tight with tears falling down her cheeks. I ran to her and crouched beside her, taking her hands in mine.

"Yuki..." Yuka lifted her head and looked at me. The moment she recognized me through the haze of her tears, she threw herself into my arms.

"Yuki? What happened? Did someone hurt you?" I glanced toward Kita who raised her hands defensively.

Yuka shook her head mumbled something into my shoulder. "Yuki, I can't understand you."

She turned her head so she could be heard clearly and spoke again. "You left." Her voice cracked along with my heart.

I held her tighter and clutched her closer to me. "I'm sorry, Yuki. It will never happen again."

I began to rock her, calming her down enough for Yuki to rebandage her infected wound. Eventually Yuka fell asleep, still in my arms. I didn't want to, but I laid her down on her cot and sat beside her, watching her sleep.

"When are going to tell her?"

I turned around to face Kita who had a sad frown on her face.

"I will tell her when I must."

Kita sighed at my stubbornness and walked forward. "At least let me bandage your wound since she is now taken care of."

I shook my head. "There is no sense. I will continue onward, we will reach the castle soon and I will be healed there. I can't say here any longer then I must." Yuki sighed again but pushed the subject no further as she turned and left, quietly shutting the door behind her.

I looked over at Yuka's sleeping face before glancing down at the wound that rested just above my hip and below my ribs. It was sloppily bandaged but it would last a few days, long enough to get us to the castle.

I rested my head beside Yuka's and closed my eyes.

"Sweet dreams, Yuka."
