Ryo:

Once I was convinced Yuka was sleeping and alright, I sent a quick letter to Dreyar.

Dear Dreyar,

I hold you responsible for what happened to Yuka. Although I will not punish you for what you have done, I trust you never to let it happen again. I want you to stay at the castle another day or so, I feel something isn't right there. Keep an eye out will you? And watch over the king for me. Tell him I sent you.

I'll send word of Yuka's condition once I know what is going on. I will be having her see the healer later today. Is there a female healer here? I'm not letting her see a male. Anyways, take care, friend.

Love,
Ryo

I sealed it and slipped it in my pocket on my way out of the room.

I walked down the hallway, servants and maids passing me without a single glance.

Until I ran into Suon.

"Ryo! Where's Yuka? Is she alright? Can I see her? You've been gone for so long!" His excited chatter was cut short by a coughing fit that wracked his body.

"Suon, you should see the healer." I told him, laying a hand on his shoulder.

He smiled weakly at me. "I just got back from seeing her. She gave me some medicine."

"Then go your chambers and rest." I told him, giving him a light push in the direction of his room.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm going, I'm going." He said and started walking that way. My brows furrowed as I heard his painful cough further down the hallway.

I entered the infirmary and was surprised to see Kita. "Kita? Since when have you been the healer here?" I asked her.

She smiled widely at me and hugged me. "I followed you here a few days after you left. It's been nice working here. But, what brings you here? Is that wound still bothering you?"

My hand instinctively went to touch the place where my coat covered the ugly red scar that marred my skin. I hesitated. The wound had indeed been bothering me. I shook my head. "No. It's my wife actually."

Wow. That sounds weird to say. A good weird though.

A sad expression crossed her features for a second before disappearing. "What's wrong with her?"

"She's been sick in the morning for the past week. Also something weird happened last night...she randomly told me she wanted some cooked cabbage. She's never even had cabbage before..." I trailed off, completely confused.

"Oh no." Kita paled and grabbed my arm. She dragged me out of the room. "Take me to her."

"Uh. Ok?" I led her to the room and she shut the door in my face. I complained loudly to no avail.

I sighed and slid against the wall to the floor in defeat. I leaned my head back and closed my eyes.

A half hour or so later, Kita finally came out of the room.

I stood up, suddenly very annoyed.

"What the hell was that?" I growled.

She sighed. "I needed to speak with Yuka alone, Ryo."

"I don't give a damn!" I snarled at her.

She gave me an annoyed look. "Do you want to know what's wrong with her or not? If you keep it up, i'll never tell you."

I growled again. "Don't tell me and I'll not only fire you but i'll make sure no one ever hires you again."

She sighed in defeat and rubbed her temples. "Okay, okay. I get your point."

I stepped back a bit, as I realized I had gotten in her face.

"You know how Yuka was...raped...yes?" She said to me.

"No. I punched Dreyar because e cheated on me and Yuka was hurt because her father beat her. Yes I know!" I cried out in exasperation.

"Yuka is pregnant. The man who raped her got her pregnant." Kita finally blurted out to me.

I froze.

"What?"

Kita nodded.

"How's Yuka taking it?" I looked anxiously at the doorway to our room.

"I don't know. She told me to tell you and get you in there once you knew." She replied.

"Well, you can go now." I waved her off before entering the room and closing the door.

Yuka was sitting up in bed, leaning against the headboard. She smiled weakly at me and I returned the smile.

"So..." She said as she fumbled with the blanket.

"You're pregnant, huh?" I said to her. She nodded and tears threatened to fall.

"Hey, don't cry, Yuka..." I walked up to her and lifted her chin with my fingers.

"This can be a good thing." I told her.

She raised an eyebrow doubtfully.

"We can raise this child as our own, Yuka. It can be our successor. We needed an heir anyway. Now we have one." I told her.

She sighed. "It's nice to know my child was created for your political reasons."

"No no. Our child. I'm helping you with this. We're raising it as our own." I said to her sternly.

Her eyes widened and smiled brightly.

"Okay." She replied.
