The Media is of Raido

Ryo:

I had been correct about when we would reach the base. Yuka was obviously mad for being wrong since we had made a bet about when we would get there.

"Pure luck." Was all she said when we got there and it made me upset that she was mad with me.

"Father!" She cried as the king came into view. She threw herself into his arms began crying, her body wracked with sobs.

"There, there, child." He soothed, petting her hair.

"I'm glad to see you're safe and unharmed, your majesty." I finally spoke once the princess's sobs wouldn't drown my voice out.

"I'm afraid that the unharmed part is not true. For either of us it seems." He looked pointedly at my arm where blood was seeping out f the makeshift bandage.

He called over a doctor and I noted how he winced when he moved his torso.

Broken ribs? Flesh wound?

I went over the list of possibilities in my head as the doctor properly bandaged my arm.

I moved it tentatively, testing it out. I winced slightly and dropped it, returning my focus the conversation between Yuka and the king.

"Daughter, I'm afraid I have a job for you. A mission. An order." Yuka's expression went from happy to guarded as her father spoke to her.

"In order to protect our kingdom, we need help. Allies. Our only current ally is Terethia, and our bonds are weak at the moment. To strengthen them, you must marry into them."

Yuka gasped and I froze as he continued.

"You will marry their younger son, Raido."

I dropped my sword and left the base in a hurry. I couldn't face them now. I couldn't bear to see the look in Yuka's eyes and the pity in the king's directed to both his daughter and her bodyguard.

Yuka:

I watched Ryo leave the room and was suddenly overcome with a feeling of loneliness. I turned back to my father and winced inwardly as he looked at me with pity.

I smiled brightly, forcing the tears back.

"It's okay, daddy! I'll do it if it keeps our kingdom safe!" I closed my eyes tight and continued to smile.

I opened my eyes in surprise as I felt something wet hit my cheek. My father stood there holding me with tears falling down his cheeks. I stared, shocked to see my strong and proud father shed tears.

"Daddy?" I asked worriedly. I placed my hand on cheek and smiled sadly.

"It's gonna be okay." I gave him a quick hug and went to find Ryo.

I wandered around the town that base was hidden in for awhile in search if Ryo. It was dusk when I finally found her, sitting under a tree, watching the red and streaks disappear from the sky.

I sat beside and let my hand graze hers. I smiled inwardly as u felt her shiver at my touch but didn't try to make anymore contact.

"I guess we should leave tomorrow, huh?" I turned to her. She still faced the horizon but nodded nonetheless. I was happy with any answer at the moment.

We sat there until the sky turned dark and the stars came out in silence. Only then did a smile break out on Ryo's face.

I froze.

In a day I had seen my brave father cry and my cold bodyguard smile.

"I love the stars. I would sneak out as a child to watch them." She spoke with a sound of longing and I noticed that her smile was not one of joy but of sadness and regret.

"My mother would take me out to wait for dawn. She loved the colors. They reminded her of my father who had taken her to watch it rise many times." I listened in silence as Ryo told me bits and pieces of her past.

"My father died when I was young. I don't remember much if him, only what he looked like, and that is probably thanks to pictures we have." I looked over at her as she continued to gaze at the stars.

"After a few years of my father passing, my mother changed... She became cruel and no longer wielded her power with humility but now used it like a sword on her people. Not only her people but her children as well..."

This Ryo is so different from the Ryo I know. This Ryo is sad and helpless where the Ryo I know is strong and heartless.

She stood and just like that, the broken and sad Ryo disappeared to be replaced with the distant and cold General.

"Come. Your father will be missing us."

She took my hand and led me away back to the base where I packed some things from home.

I threw in a couple necklaces to be sold, a teddy bear from my childhood that I can't be without, and tucked my mothers ring onto my necklace and hid it my shirt.

Ryo had grabbed me some plain dresses and some men's pants and shirts for me to wear. It wasn't until I had put them on did I realize they were hers.

"Goodbye, father. Until I see you again." I gave my father a long hug goodbye and waited for Ryo to finish saying her farewell before setting off.

World...Raido...future...here I come!
