Season 1 Episode 6
Aya POV
"Please stop eating the cookie batter." Abiba forewarned. When she turned to check on the new batch of cookies in the oven, I sucked my tongue out and buried a clump of dough in my hand.
"It tastes fantastic." I groaned as I chewed on the chewy dough. "You know, it's been a long time since I've done anything like this. It's a true gift to be back."
"Well, I felt horrible about having to shove you out and scare you like that." I hope that didn't cause any harm."
I gasped and hastily shook my head. "I'm off for the whole Christmas season, but I can't guarantee you summer." Because I may not be able to find work until then; it was difficult to get work over the winter, and when the ice melts, I will most likely see the sun.
"I just wish I was there, you know. Athen clearly despises me." We weren't particularly close, but when I left for the city, we were on excellent terms.
"Athen is always grouchy at this time of year." I grinned as I remembered Darius. Darius had appeared in my thoughts more than anything else since I arrived, and it honestly left me feeling hazy. The woman was a cross between the Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge.
"How come you didn't inform me you were going to let Jerry pick me up at the train station?"
She chuckled uncomfortably. The train trip home was dreadful. It felt like my ass was sitting on thorns, and the way he scowled at me made me want to jump out of the speeding car.
"How horrible was it?"
"Very." I muttered as I rolled a piece of dough in my mouth. "He truly despises my gut, and I had to pay him a large tip just to keep him from driving the car into a ditch."
"He liked you, and then he turned into a bitter lumpa oppa when you left."
"Did he like me?" I inquired, dismissing what she had just stated. "He admitted it to me one night. I believe he was wasted. But the next day, he advised me to forget everything. You already know I couldn't."
"Well, he clearly hates me now," I groaned, "but I'll try to see if I can tie up any loose ends with him."
Abiba tentatively touched my hand. "You owe no explanation to anyone as to why you had to go. Mom and dad's medicine could not have been prescribed if you hadn't been working that six-figure job."
"I understand, but before all of that. Everyone was there to support me. I felt terrible about not being here while you were going through a terrible divorce. Why didn't you call and inform me?" I chastised. Was I no longer deserving of knowing about family matters? I honestly felt as if I wasn't a part of the family any longer.
"I understand that working as an assistant may be difficult, and we didn't want to add gasoline to your fire."
"I—"
The doorbell sounded loudly, cutting me off. I locked my gaze on Abiba. "I'm busy making cookies; you go fetch it." She remarked this as she resumed mixing the dough. I moaned as I pushed my buttocks off the stool and dragged myself to the door, where the ringing contiued.
"Wait!" I screamed. I opened the door and, as if seeing a ghost, I shrieked loudly, backing away from it.
What on earth was she doing here?
How did she track me down?
"You've been a bad, bad, very bad girl, Aya." She glowed like a fox. I moved in closer to her.
"How did... What?... How did you find me." She grabbed me by the throat and forced me through the door, causing it to slam.
"I knew your fragrance from a mile away, so finding you wasn't too difficult." Her gaze was drawn to mine. "What were you saying about quitting on me yesterday, Aya?"
"Who are you." Our gazes were drawn to Abiba. She took a step closer.
"Fuck!" Darius grumbled, gently releasing her grip on my neck.
"Aya, who is this." Her ardent gaze slid over my boss's, quickly choking the room. "My boss and—"
"You must return to work." In my ears, she growled.
"No." I responded with a grit.
"What brings her here...? Wait, your boss is a lady?"
"We are..."
"She attempted to qui—"
"I told her she should come... because..." I wandered off, unable to think of anything to say. "I had missed her. I'm missing you, baby." She stiffened as I brought her in and tipped up to kiss her cheeks.
My sister's pupils dilate even more.
"You're dating your boss. Fuck! "You're fucking this hot stuff..."
why must siblings be so embarrassing and dramatic.
Darius chuckled as she entered the home, her hands outstretched for a shake. "My name is Darius Horus, and I am the CEO of Horus Corporation." My sister brushed the flour from her hands before shaking her hand.
"Are you here for the holidays?" This was my cue to begin, and I went forward, massaging Darius' back. "No she—"
"Of course I'm staying."
"Where's your luggage."
"In the car."
"You brought clothing!" I shouted, my eyes widening.
"Just in case you were being a hard head," she joked, drawing me into a hug, her warm lips caressing the outside of my ears. "I planned to crawl my way inside that head. They don't seem to realize you quit, which makes me question."
"Mom, dad!"
After 2 seconds...
"You were dating?" My mother's surprised voice inquired. I yank Darius' arms away from me. "You dated your boss? And she's a lady."
Oh crap, I swallowed. But what if...
"Why didn't you tell us, honey?" Her voice softened and she gazed between us, but then her eyes brightened and she raced towards Darius, pulling her in an embrace; I could sense she was a little uneasy, and I needed to speak to her privately just so I could send something up her ass.
"Let her go, Mom." I clenched my teeth softly. "She had the scent of money and Christmas." My mother gleamed like a child. I sneered; Darius was uninterested in Christmas; she was like Mr. Stupid Scrooge.
