Season 1 Episode 15

Aya POV

When I awoke, it was nearly lunchtime, and I had to run out the door to meet Jerry down at the diner. I was genuinely looking forward to seeing him and perhaps chatting with him. Who knows, maybe he changed, but he was rather communicative when we were closer.

Aunt Vickey's restaurant was the most popular stop in town, with the greatest hot chocolate, French fries, and turkey sandwich.

Because it was winter, the aroma of coffee filled the diner, making my mouth wet for a hot cup straight away. The diner was packed, but that didn't surprise me at all.

Hearing the sweet Christmas music playing in the background, I couldn't help but grin. Christmas was breathtaking.

I could see the back of Jerry's head; his french crop haircut had been a familiar sight to me since he was in high school. It was a basic haircut, with a short, unkempt fringe drawn forward over his brow. I patted his shoulder, he glanced up, stood up, and hugged me briefly before sitting down.

"I've placed an order for us."

"Thanks."

"I honestly believed you weren't going to make it."

My jaw hangs wide, but I chuckle, "Why not?" Sincerely, all I wanted was to be in Darius's inebriated arms, so I must admit that I almost didn't make it.

"How have things been?" He queried.

"It's been all fine. I have a life, which is amazing."

"Life?" With a grimace, he inquired. "You have more than just life; you have a job, a lifestyle, and money. Overall, you have it all."

"I wouldn't say everything," I joked. "But I want to get there someday."

"So, what exactly brought you to town? I haven't seen you in a while."

"I was sick of the city Christmas and decided I wanted to be among family, friends, and memories." I responded.

Our meal was delivered to our table. I moistened my lips, a smile on my face, knowing that he had ordered what we used to eat almost every day after school.

Hot chocolate, fries, and a turkey sandwich. The turkey stack was so tall on the small slice of bread.

"You still remembered." My eyes widened as the flood of memories hit me. We were constantly at this exact booth, talking about everything that happened in town while stuffing our faces with greasy shoes strings French fries, delicious hot cocoa, and sandwiches.

"Something just does not change."

My face was starting to ache from too much smiling. "All I want is—"

I couldn't help but be surprised to see Darius, who snuggled beside me on the booth, her arms wrapped about me.

"What are you doing here."

My brows knitted together, I side glance Jerry for a brief second.

Her hands lightly touched my cheeks as she spoke, "I apologize for last night; I shouldn't have yelled at you and treated—"

Jerry's throat clearing cut her off, and she gave him a harsh stare. I started shifting uneasily in the booth.

This could go wrong...

I realized I'd never introduced them properly.

"Um...Jerry, please meet my boss, Darius."

"Darius, please meet my good friend, Jerry."

"I'm also her girlfriend." She said this while extending her arms, but instead of shaking it, he started slipping out of his booth. "Where are you going, Jerry?" Standing up, I inquired.

"Something has arisen." He muttered. He went outdoors, and I was able to catch up to him, leaving Darius behind.

"We hadn't even finished eating."

"Well you and her can finished it."

"What's that supposed to mean." I inquired, perplexed.

"I'm not sure... Couldn't you just tell her to stay at home?" He was fuming. It was evident that he didn't like her. But why would he just up and despise someone he has never met?

"It looked as if everyone was upset with me for trying to improve my life." I declared, my tone filled with frustration.

"No one is furious at you for trying to improve your life. We are disappointed that you departed and have forgotten about us, especially me."

"Don't play the blame game. We couldn't attend the same college since you failed your SATs."

"But if you had failed, I would not have left. I would have remained because I love you."

My jaw sprang wide in a gasped.

"What do you mean?"

He came closer, he holds my arms, "I said I love you. All these years I wanted to tell that, but you never actually looked at me that way."

I didn't know what to say and just stood there staring. I could clearly feel my heart beating for someone else—Darius. We became closer than I ever thought possible, and now she is the only one I desire. I take my hand away. "Jerry..." I grumbled.

"Yeah, I know, you love her, because she's rich and gorgeous and I'm not," he mocked. It has long been demonstrated that no one can match your taste."

"What exactly does that mean?"

"You want them wealthy and shattered. You've always enjoyed a good challenge and being paid for it."

"Are you implying I'm a gold digger."

"However you want to put it."

"Not because I rejected you, Jerry; you should insult me; that's not good; take it back."

"That's not nice, Jerry take it back." He mocked. "Aya, you're not in kindergarten. I will not retract the truth."

"Where is the old Jerry I remember?"

"He graduated." He scowled as he walked away. I wanted to follow him, but Darius warm fingers tightened around my wrist. "Leave me alone, Darius, and go home."

"You're not going after him. You can chat to him again later. You should give individuals their space. Allow them to catch their breath; they'll get back to you when their emotions aren't clouding their judgment."

"He confessed to me, and I—"

"What did he confess?"

"His affection, and I want to find out why, so go home."

"If you tell me to go home one more time, I'll kiss you."

I chose to re-express my desire for her to kiss me, but as expected, she brought my body up to her, ducked her head, and crashed her lips to mine. Despite us devouring each other's faces off, a grin crept upon my lips.

"I believe you forgot about our little pact."

"What deal?"

"I go home, and you're coming with me. Furthermore, don't you want your job back?"

"I can't believe, I haven't told my family that I quitted."

"I don't believe you should."

"Of course you'd say that, you little demon."

"Considering we're in town, are you going to show me around?"
