Sarah Beth~
"Good morning, Sarah Beth!" I was awakened by Rufus the next morning, opening the curtains and being as cheerful as ever. I eyed him with annoyance as sunlight crept across my cheek. I knew why he was so happy; because Gregory and I were no longer together. He had hated is from the beginning, so our breakup was like a dream come true in his eyes.
"Get out." I groggily pointed to the door. Since I was back I was going to go back to work early, and I didn't feel like dealing within before him. He replied by acting completely innocent.
"But, Frecky! I made you breakfast!" He pulled a tray up from a chest near the door. My stomach growled at the mention of food.
"...what?"
"Breakfast!" He put the tray on my lap. On it was a plate with two pancakes on it and a couple pieces of bacon pushed to the side so it wouldnt touch anything. Beside it was a slightly smaller plate filled with scrambled egg. There was also a glass of apple juice and two forks so I wouldn't have to contaminate my food with other kinds. I smiled without catching myself, but also raised an eyebrow.
"You didn't make this; you can't cook to save your life. Mrs. Shea did this."
"Yeah, you're right. But I put it on the try and carried it up here. Doesn't that count for something?!"
"No, it doesn't." I crossed my arms. After last night, I didn't even want to look at him. Instead of trying to comfort me, all he did was blame Gregory. What he didn't know is that I had broken up with him, not the other way around. I couldn't tell him that he had been right about Gregory. I would never hear the end of it. Plus, I didn't want to give him the satisfaction.
But maybe Rufus had just been trying to protect me. Maybe he thought Gregory was going to Hurt me; not that I think he would. Of course, I never believed he would be a Death Eater... The more I pondered it the it seemed like Rufus was just trying to help me instead of just pounding on Gregory. Like it had never been about him, only me. Perhaps I should be thanking him instead of giving him the cold shoulder.
"Yes, I guess. Thank you, Rufie." I picked up one of the forks. His face glowed when he realized that I had called him by his pet name.
"So...we're good?" He pulled a bow out of my hair that had still been in from the day before. I mush have fallen asleep in it. However, I also noticed something that hasn't been on me yesterday: a pair of socks. Rufus must have put them on me before carrying me to bed. After all, that was the only explanation. He was the only one able to carry me without waking me up. Even Mr. Cornelius couldn't do that.
"Yeah," I softly laughed. "We're good."
"Great!" He laid down, halfway ontop of me, " you can help me go robe shopping."
"Rufus, in not going to help you with your stupid Ministry work. You know good and well that I do not support them."
"Don't you support me?" He pouted.
"Rufus, this isn't a matter of you, it's a matter of the Ministry and how stupid and careless it it!"
"You only think that because of your aunt!"
"I only think it because it's true! Besides, I can't help you shop. I have work."
"Every day until you go to school?" He seemed unable to believe it.
"Yes. If I am going to get a house for myself, or even just a flat, I need money. This is the only way I can get it."
"Sarah Beth? I thought I heard you up!" We both looked to the doorway to see Mr. Cornelius. "It's nice to see you in a better mood."
"Somewhat better..." Rufus mumbled. I slapped him in the back of the head.
"Yeah." I offered a warm smile. "I think I'm going to go to work today." I stretched. Mr. Cornelius shook his head.
"I'm so proud of you. Working so hard for what you want."
"Thanks." I finally started eating. He came closer into the room. "Hey, has the Profit come in yet?"
"Yes, it's down stairs. I haven't had a chance to look it over yet."
"Oh. May I read it?"
"Of course. " He chuckled a hit. I picked up my wand, which was on the night stand.
"Accio Daily Profit!" A moment later the newspaper was dropped beside of my. I started to open it up, but then paused. The headline caught my eye. I left it folded up and read the bold, black letters.
'Secerus Snape Appointed New Headmaster Of Hogwarts'
I gasped and dropped the paper, right on top of my pancakes. A Death Eater was now in charge of Hogwarts. The unimaginable had just happened: Hogwarts was no longer a safe place.
