"San, honey? Are you awake? Come down when you're up my boy, breakfast is on the table."

As San stirred from his sleep to the ever calming voice of his mother, he blindly reached out to check the time on his phone. 7:30am. Enough time to head down for breakfast and squeeze in a quick workout in their home gym before getting ready for the start of his Senior year.

"There you are! Good morning Son, are you excited for your first day back? Make sure you eat well, your lovingly crazy Mother has been up since 6am preparing all this for her 'little angel'." San's Father jokingly quipped, earning a stern but loving glare from his wife across the kitchen.

San chuckled and eased into the seat of the kitchen island across from his Father, politely bowing his head to both his parents on his arrival.

"Good morning, Dad. Thanks for all the food Mom, I'm sorry but I won't be able to eat every bit, I need to get a work-out in before school and I don't wanna weigh down too much, am I okay to take the rest to school for my dinner please? I don't want it to go to waste."

As usual ultimately whenever San opened his mouth, his Mom's heart warmed at his manners and demeanour. Every day, both of his parents found themselves thanking the high heavens for their blessing of a son.

"Of course, sweetheart. Just eat what you need to and get started for your day, I'll box up the remainders before your Dad and I leave for work, we'll be gone by the time you're about to leave. Come here for a second though please?"

San glanced over at his Mother before heading over, who stood with her arms wide open ready to welcome the son that although towered over her and was built enough to wrap around her twice, was still always going to be her baby.

"Do good today, Sannie. I'm sure you're sick of hearing it by now, but your Father and I cannot put into words how lucky we are to have you as our child, and how proud you make us each day. I can't believe you're in your.. Senior year.. where did my chubby little dumpling go?? I want answers!!"

As San snorted in amusement and engulfed his Mother, his Father got up to join the group embrace along in his laughter at the expense of his partially broken wife.

"Okay Yeji, let the boy go now, come on. San, my champ, kill it today and each and every day as you always do. Make sure to give your best efforts to everything that counts. You've well and truly exceeded in all years below so there's no doubt in my mind you'll let up now. My boy, I am so, so proud of the man you are."

As San detached himself from the grip of both his parents with a beaming smile and full to the brim of praise and love, he thanked them both wholeheartedly along with another bow before kissing his Mother's (now tear stained) cheek and giving his Father one last hug. He went back to the kitchen island, eating quickly enough to get a move on with his morning but not too quick to test his stomach during his workout, before bidding his parents a farewell for the day and heading down to the bottom floor of their home to his own personal heaven, his gym.

45 minutes later with a heaving chest, sweat droplets heading south from his forehead down his toned firm front and his vest lost along the way, San finished his last set of bench presses and took a moment to slide down on the cool hardwood floor to gain his breath back. Thoroughly satisfied with his pump and his start to his day with the two most important people in the world, he smiled to himself, before pulling himself from the floor to head back to his room where he could shower and dress before leaving to pick Hwa up. This was a routine that had been set in stone since elementary - even before San was gifted his dream car for his 18th birthday (a Mercedes Benz G-Class AMG, if you were curious) it was habitual to make his way to Hwa's every morning to get his friend before they headed to the bus station. A day where the routine wasn't followed was so rare, he couldn't even remember one.

After freshening up and dressing in his crisply ironed and clean (courtesy of course of Mother San done a week in advance) uniform, San grabbed his car keys as well as his leftover breakfast/newfound lunch and headed out to his car in the garage, firing over a quick text to his best friend to be ready for pick up in 10.

———————————-

"San, my brother! God, I'll never get used to this car. You're the luckiest son of a bitch I'll ever know. What's up, man? Our Senior year, how crazy is that? I'm so excited. Did you get your time table email? Do you thi..."

Quite literally 3 seconds after getting/falling into San's car, he was met with his overly-excitable and eager friend, who unsurprisingly could not for the life of him not not speak absolutely anything that came to mind.

But San didn't mind. He and Hwa made up every part of each other that the other lacked. Undoubtedly out of the 4, despite all meeting and grouping at the same time, it was evident San and Hwa were twin flames, just that bit closer with each other than the rest but still very much as good as siblings between the lot of them. They just made sense together, and it was evident when you spent time with the pair.

"Hwa, breathe man, I'm not going anywhere, you'll have all day to chat your little ass off. Let's get to school first so I can throw you at Mingi and Yunho and tire you out a bit, you'll end up scaring the lower years. Did you eat skittles for breakfast again?"

"....."

"Hwa, did you eat skittles for breakfast again?"

"... Yes. Yes I did. I woke up too late to eat with my Mom, so she'd already left. I'm kinda starving actually, the sugar rush might burn out soon. Oh god, I'm gonna crash before I get to school?? I'm gonna be so tired. FUCK. Shall we get-"

San kept his eyes on the road, one hand leaving the wheel and reaching behind Hwa's passenger seat to the floor below, where he pulled out his packed breakfast/lunch and dropped it on the lap of the manic boy next to him.

"For the love of God, shut up and eat the breakfast my Mom made. I was gonna eat it for lunch because there was a lot left over, but for the sake of my sanity, eat the food Hwa. Just try get a little move on, we'll be at school in 5." San said to Hwa, attemptingly stern but with a soft smirk.

"Ooooooh thank you thank you thank you! My best friend Choi San, saving my ass as per usual. Wow, this looks amazing. Yummy. Do you want any? Did you eat enough this morning? You know what, I'll feed you! Just a small bite. Say AHHHH-"

San turned his head to his left ever so slightly to be met face to face with a loaded to the brim spoon before seeing out the corner of his eye the car in front of him emergency brake, forcing him to slam on. Both boys shot forward on impact but avoided any collision, the car in front sticking a hand out the window to offer a measly apology before carrying on with their drive.

Before San would ever acknowledge any harm on himself, his natural instinct was to check those closest to him. However, when he turned to his side, he thought to himself that today might be the perfect day to start leaving Hwa to his own devices.

His best friend now sat gracefully drenched from shirt to shoes in the food that had also spilt in just about every crevice of the passenger side and even decorated the dashboard, yet impressively still holding the food-loaded spoon in the air.

"... Do you want a bite then?"
