Body after body began to fall to the astroturfed floor of the pitch, drowning in the weight of their football uniforms and sweating profusely with heaving chests.

"Fuck, aren't you supposed to love and cherish your friends, Sannie? Why are you trying to put us in early graves? You train us like you hate us." Hwa complained through ragged breaths, as melodramatic as always.

San scoffed, discarding his helmet and pads as he stood around the sprawled out mass of bodies led staring up at the setting sun of the sky.

"I train you like this because I love you all. I know what you're capable of. You wouldn't be here if I thought any less. Phenomenally good work from you all today, I can see you've all been up keeping basic practices during school break and it's really showing, so I thank you all for taking your dedication to the team seriously." He addressed the group as a whole gracefully, receiving a wave of thumbs up, panting smiles and incoherent noises of acceptance.

"Anyone wanna go grab a smoothie? Mingi and I are craving." Yunho proposed, closing the trunk of his car as Mingi climbed sorely into the passenger side. He decided on leaving his car own overnight in the school parking lot, knowing it made sense to travel with Yunho seeing as they would inevitably end up back at his place, an occurrence they had so regularly made a habit of. At that point, the two could've just lost a car between them and shared the one.

Hwa's ears pricked and he nodded in Yunho's direction. "I'm down, seeing as San had me sweat out the vital nutrients my body needs to live."

Sending another eyeroll to his best friend, San was about to decline the offer, remembering what waited for him back at his place. The earlier occurrence aside, he really had just wanted to get back into the surroundings of Wooyoung.

But a little underlying feeling of guilt washed over him. He couldn't start to disregard plans with his friends just because of Wooyoung's arrival. He despised people who drifted willingly from their closest friendships in the name of a new romantic interest.

This is another learning curve. San warred with himself.

So he agreed to go grab a drink with his best friends. He asked Hwa to ride with the other two but not providing the specific reason as to why, surprised when Hwa put up no fight or needy attitude and launched himself into the back of Yunho's car.

"He's going to call Woo on the way, isn't he?" Mingi smirked, Hwa giggling and clapping.

"I was actually gonna suggest a sleepover at his place but I have a feeling Woo is there right now and I didn't want to put San's back up against the wall. So I just proposed a quick after training trip to the Health Bar. It's cool he still agreed though, he's still our Sannie." Yunho said with an adoring smile, happy to see his friend managing his priorities equally.

"Hi Sannie, you okay?"

San fawned over the slightly tired sounding voice that filled the speaker in his car as Wooyoung answered the phone.

"Hi, baby. We finished practice a little earlier than usual, so we're just on the way to grab a quick smoothie and then I'll be on my way home to you. Would you like anything bringing back? I can pick us some food up?"

Wooyoung smiled heartily on the other end of the line as he curled up in the taller's king size bed. He adored the homely and settling vibe of it all.

"No thank you, Sannie. I've got some water here next to your bed and I'll wait until you get back so we can decide what we want for dinner. Enjoy your smoothie, I'll see you when you're home, baby."

San knew Wooyoung had said more than the words he'd heard, but his brain skipped like a scratched record stuck on "next to your bed" letting him know where Wooyoung was currently residing as he waited for him, and "baby", Woo's first use of a pet name for him. He was glad the boy was on the other side of the phone and not present to see him flush embarrassingly red like a 13 year old.

Coughing slightly to focus himself out of his daze and back on the conversation, San resumed.

"Okay, sweetheart. I'll be home soon. If you're tired just take a nap, I'll wake you when I get in."

"Yeah, I think I might. Okay, Sannie. Say hi to the guys for me and enjoy your drink, see you soon." Wooyoung finished with an adorable yawn, making San mouth 'Oh my fucking God' as he swooned over the boy.

They bid their farewells and minutes later the boys arrived at the store and settled in, enjoying their post-training wind down time together. San and Hwa marvelled at the adoring couple before them. It was refreshing in the best way. There is no official description of what a gay man entails, but to the masses, Mingi and Yunho had ended up naturally presenting as two straight-as-they come high school Seniors. They were previously collared often by interested girls because of their positions on the schools team as well as their manly, definingly handsome appearances.

However, they had intended to make it abundantly clear for their final year that they were two of a kind and no longer wanted to deal with the approaches. Their surrounding peers had always known pair to be somewhat closer than friends, but with no specially defining label in place, it left room for people to try their luck with either of them. Even if every single advance was rejected.

So to see them now, only the same day as they finally put a title to the relationship (fucking finally you fools, San and Hwa thought but withheld) glued to each others side and showing sweet acts of affection through hand kisses and shared drinks no matter who watched on, filled their hearts with pride. Hwa did however, end up genuinely barking at a couple who had stared for a little too long with an expression too unpleasant to be considered as a sweet observation on a same-sex couple just being exactly what they were, a couple.

"They're doing the exact same shit you two were just sat doing, only they're ten times hotter than you both ever will be. You should learn from my best friends and I, we uphold this really great mindset called 'get with the programme you emotionally stunted wenches and mind your own fucking business.' Lady, if you glare at my boys like that one more time, I will flatten your little boyfriend clean out across this floor. Skidaddle now, darlings." Hwa concluded with a teasing flick of his wrist after finishing his series of barks and growls.

The couple sat speechless, tinged red at the public call out with surrounding tables now shooting judgmental glares their way. The lady shot up, grabbing her bag and storming out with her head-down boyfriend tailing behind, averting his eyes from the groups table. Once they'd left, the group burst out laughing. It was not the first time nor would it be the last that the pair had been at the centre of judgement and both boys were more than capable of handling themselves should a situation require it, but for the most part they had learnt to ignore and gracefully rise above. Well, unless their hardcore #1 gay-allegiance bodyguard was with them.

"What would we ever do without our Seongie?" Yunho cooed across the table as he cupped the satisfied grinning boys face in his hands.

"Much better than 'power to the gays' anyway." San lightly teased Hwa from his side, referring to his previous declaration of support.

"What can I say. You guys are my world. I'll always have all of your backs against assholes like that, and worse ones too."

The boys erupted in a varied noise of "awwww" and "our bestie Hwa", jumping him one by one. They finished their drinks, fully content at the quality time shared before heading out to their cars. Hwa asked Mingi and Yunho for a ride home to San's surprise, but realised all was fine as he pulled him in to a hug and whispered 'enjoy the rest of your night, my guy.' San didn't really know what to make of the comment, but he accepted it and hopped in his car, shooting Wooyoung a text to say he was on his way and waving to his smiling friends as he pulled out of his spot.
