The walk back to the car felt like something from a fairy tale. Tommy had once again placed his coat around Lani's shoulders and Lani was teasing him.
"I have taught you new things" she says proudly.
"That you have" he says, suddenly serious.
"Oh go away serious man" she laughs, nudging his shoulder making him topple over slightly, he wasn't prepared for the impact. This just makes Lani laugh more.
Once again Lani finds herself over Tommy's shoulder as he lifts her up. Flashbacks to their first night out make their way into both of their minds. The night where they both started to fall deeply in love with eachover. And yet here they were, still falling more and more in love.
"Put me down!" She shouts, still laughing her head off.
Tommy didn't know if there was anything more beautiful in the world than the sound of her laugh, or her smile. He loved the way that her smile covered her entire face, dimples placed on either cheek and pushing her eyes up slightly.
He finally places her back down on the ground carefully, making sure that the coat was still around her small shoulders, keeping her warm.
They don't speak for a few more minutes as they reach the car which was parked a few streets over. Tommy goes over to her side and opens the door for her, helping her into the car, before returning to his side and starting the car.
Neither of them had noticed the time. They don't tend to when they're together.
It was almost 2:30am by the time they got back, both still had a smile on their faces, although their faces had grown rather tired. Not that either of them said anything.
Tommy walks over to her side of the car and opens the door for her, placing a hand on the small of her back, leading her out of the car. After he closes the door he returns his hands to her, he needed her, he needed to feel her.
They near the front door and all they can hear is shouting. Not the usual bounding voice of Arthur Shelby however, no. Well, it was Arthur, but he was upset. Angry. Tommy pushes Lani behind him and reaches for his gun which he kept in his coat pocket, which was around Lani's shoulders.
"What's going on?" She asks as worry makes its way onto her face. Was it Alfie? Had he come back to get her? Or was it something worse? Someone here to get Thomas? She couldn't bear the thought of him getting hurt.
"It's alright, just stay behind me" he whispers as he makes his way to the door.
There were four voices coming from the inside, and Lani had thought that she was mistaken when she first heard him. But as Thomas opened the door and slowly made his way into the kitchen with his gun drawn, she knew that she couldn't be mistaken.
He had found her.
"Angharad" Rhodri breathes out.
He was tied to a chair in the middle of the kitchen with Polly, Arthur and John stood around him. He was cut up and had blood pouring down his face. His eyes plastered on hers.
She hated the way he looked at her. That fucking look could turn water into stone.
Tommy looks back at Lani with guilty expression. And that's when Lani knew. He did this.
"No" she speaks, suddenly out of breath as she places a hand on her chest. "You...you did this?" She asks, staring at him.
She couldn't believe him. She couldn't believe that he would be responsible for this. But that look on his face said everything.
"Lani..." he says softly reaching back for her arm. She doesn't do anything. She just stands there, her body gone into complete and utter shock. She doesn't even feel Tommy's hand on her wrist.
Her eyes averted back to Rhodri. He had been staring at her the entire time.
"Dwi am fucking lladd ti, a fo" I'm going to fucking kill you, and him. He seeths as he tries to get out of the chair. Arthur immediately punches him in the face, this time knocking him out cold.
"What did he say?" John asks, everyone looking at the woman who is still standing in the same spot, looking like she had just seen a ghost.
"He told me that he was going to kill me and Tommy" she whispers.
Tommy.
She called him Tommy. She hadn't done that before. He knew then and there that he had lost her.
"I need to make a call" she whispers, walking towards the phone which was hanging on the wall. She looks down at Tommy's hand which was placed around her arm.
"Get the fuck away from me" she breathes, tears threatening to fall down.
Tommy does as he is told and steps away from her, making her a path to the phone. He just stands and watches her, for the first time in years he felt tears begin to well up in his eyes.
She gets there and dials the only number that she could think of. Although she was absolutely livid with the man, she knew that he would come. He was the less of two evils at this moment. And yes, she knew that she would regret it and was completly contradicting herself. But right now, she just needed him. She needed her big brother.
Alfie.
He picks up on the first ring.
"Alfie Solomons" he says roughly.
"I need a ride" she says, trying to make her voice sound somewhat steady. And completely failing.
"I'll be there by tomorrow morning" he says. No questions asked. He knew her. He knew that she wouldn't want to talk about what was bothering her. Especially not with him. And he knew that this didn't mean that he was in the clear. But he also knew that she needed him. And he would be there.
Always.
