CHAPTER TWO -  THE VISIT.

“How the hell can an immortal break a fang??” Armand, my bodyguard and best friend asked completely in shock.  Staring at me like if I had gone completely mad.

“How the hell am I suppose to know?  I just woke up, like this.” I stated, flashing him with my fangs.

“Oh Jesus, Erick.  This is serious.” Armand stated, coming to stand in front of me, absolute horror on his face as he inspected my teeth.  “Can’t you remember anything?” he asked for the hundredth time.

“I’ve already told you.  I don’t remember a thing about last night.” I stated exasperated.  “Or the last couple of nights.” I corrected, dragging my hand thru my hair in frustration.  It was already hard enough to look at myself in the mirror with no memory whatsoever of the past couple of days.

“We need to get that fix before it heals.  Without it, you will starve to death.”  Armand stated worried, pulling out a phone book, and searching thru it.

“I doubt I will starve to death without one fang.” I corrected, sheepishly.   “I still have another one, you know.”  I pointed out.

“For someone your age, you can sometimes really be dense.” Armand stated, clearly a step away from beginning to panic as he continued to search in the book.   “With only one fang, feeding will take twice as much.  Hence, doubling the chances of you being caught.   And after the last incident… ” Armand said making the memories of that night invade me.

What had started as a peaceful, beautiful night had ended up being a blood bath.   Immortals were at their weakest when feeding.  And in those couple of minutes, I had been attacked by two rogues.  Our fight, catching the attention of mortals who were walking by and lost their lives hoping to do the right thing.

Okay, so I hadn’t thought of that.  With only one fang, feeding would leave me un-defensive for much longer.  Given my enemies plenty of time to kill me.  The calm I had been feeling up to now quickly leaving me.

Vampires today fed off bagged blood.  All but a few, who had a strange reaction to dead blood cells.  To my luck, I just happened to be one of those few.

Something that other vampires thought of as an adventure, I only found exhausting.  Having to hunt down every single day for a meal at first had been exhilarating, but as I got older it became boring, just another task.

“What are you searching for?” I asked Armand concerned, coming to stand beside him.

“What else you ass?  A dentist.” Armand stated, clearly bugged.

“A dentist?  You gotta be kidding me.”

“No, you dumb ass.” Armand said growling.

“Stop with the name calling.  I haven’t done anything to you.” I said surprised at Armand’s reaction.  He’d never treated me like a child.

“Oh shut up.” Armand ordered.  Changing the page once again.  “Here it is!” he yelled, full of excitement, pointing at an ad.

Peering down on the paper I read: “Dentist Melanie Holloway.  Office hours from three p.m. to ten p.m.”  Looking down into my watch, I realized it was just thirty minutes to ten.  We weren’t going to make it.

“We’ll make it.” Armand said, clearly guessing what was on my mind, as he searched for the car keys on my desk.

“How the hell am I gonna explain to a dentist that I am a Immortal who broke a fang?” I asked, following Armand out of my office.

“First of all, you don’t have to say a thing.  Just control her, or put a suggestion in her mind that you have a chipped tooth.” Armand said walking thru out the house and entering the garage.

My thoughts were scattered everywhere, the seriousness of the situation taking it’s toll, as I watched the concern in Armand’s face.

What the hell had happened to me in these past couple of days?  It wasn’t normal for a vampire to have memory loss.

                                     @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Entering the dentist office, I was surprised to find a red head putting the Close sign on the door.

“Miss I need a dentist, its an emergency.” I stated in the most convincing voice that I could master.

“I’m sorry.  The doctor is …” the woman began earnestly.

Knowing where this conversation was heading, I easily slipped into her mind, taking control of her as I made her open the door for me.  Reading her thoughts in the process.

Ellie.  The woman’s name was Ellie and she’d been about to lie to me.  The doctor was still here.  Controlling her, I made her take me to one of the examining rooms and then go find the doctor.

As I patiently waited, I began to examine the room itself.  And was impressed to find that it was very clean and organized.  Definitely a woman’s office.

As I pulled a picture of a young woman and a man standing in the park, closer to me, I was surprised at the beauty the woman held.  Black, long wavy hair.  Eyes so dark and deep, they could easily be mistaken with black.

Turning at the sound of a worried voice I found Ellie had returned, followed by the doctor.  The woman from the photo.  Staring after her, I was even more impressed.  The photo didn’t do her justice at all.  She was skinny, but still beautiful.  Pulling my thoughts back to the problem at hand and away from the beautiful doctor, I faced her.

“Ellie is fine.” I stated not wanting her to worry for the other woman, as she turned around and left.

“What can I do for you?” she asked, coming to sit on a chair after a brief moment of hesitation and signaling me to do the same.

Following Armand’s directions, I quickly tried to control her and instantly found a wall.  “I can’t read you.” I stated truly surprised, staring at her with concern.  If I couldn’t control her it meant only one thing.

“Okay.” she stated a concerned look in her eyes.  “How can I help you tonight?” she asked ignoring my comment completely and getting ready to work as she pulled herself closer to me.

“I chipped a tooth.” I found myself saying, unable to stop looking at her.

“You came to the right place.  Let me see.” she said willing to help.

When I opened my mouth, I watched her look at me with admiration and confusion.  “Mr. , I don’t see it.”

Extracting and flashing my fangs at her, I saw her jump out of the chair.  “You… you …are a… vampire?” she stuttered, backing up until her back hit a wall.

“Lady, I wont hurt you.  I just need your help.”  I stated, coming to stand in front of her.  My hands raised as I sign of surrender.

“This can’t be happening.  There are no such things as vampires.”  she stated, hyperventilating, clearly moments away from fainting. .

“There is not.  I am an immortal.  Now, I need you to calm down before…” my words died on my lips as she fainted before me.  Out of instinct I reached for her, catching her just before she hit face first into the ground.
