CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR - FAREWELL

Melanie’s POV

Having been turned into a No Fanger did have its advantages.  For instance my hearing was amazing.  They could no longer be able to hide anything from me.   It was such an advantage that I could hear both sides of the conversation, even if Armand was in the other room and talking on the phone.

So when Armand returned I was already packing.

Erick and I had talked last night of what to be expected.  We had planned for two situations.  The approval of a No Fanger.  Or the sentence of one.  And no matter how much I pleaded him to kill me if they had taken that decision, Erick had firmly stated that he wouldn’t do such thing.  That we would go into hiding.  That the council would have to pass thru him to get to me.

“You don’t need to come.” I told Armand sincerely, sensing more his presence than actually seeing him.  Not wanting him to end his life for his loyalty to us.  “Erick and I could make it on our own.  I’m not as weak as I once was.”

“You still need to train.  Who better than me to teach you.” Armand said sincerely coming to stand beside me.  “And just because you are a No Fanger, it doesn’t mean your undefeatable.” he added smiling at me.

Knowing, that no matter how much I implored him, Armand would be Armand, and would do what he pleased, I let go of my bag and hugged him.  Tears running down my face.

“What about your mate?  Sally is a really sweet girl.” I asked concerned, feeling his whole body tense up underneath me.

“She’s still a child.” Armand stated sincerely, pulling me away from his chest.  “It wouldn’t be right of me to push her into this whole ordeal.”

“You’re right.” I said, not for one second believing that.  I’d been younger than Sally when my whole life had been turned upside down the first time.  I knew Sally could handle it.  But I also knew that Armand was afraid of loosing yet another mate.  Keeping her away would ensure her safety and when this mess was all sorted out, I knew he would return for her.

“Finish.  We need to leave as soon as possible.”  Armand said, turning and exiting the room.

Looking around the room, that was never my own, I couldn’t help but feel regret as I could picture the life me and Erick could’ve had.  No it would never be, because of that selfish bastard Belask.

Finding Armand already on the car, waiting for me, I turned to face the entrance of the only place, I’d momentarily called home, and tears ran down my face as I found Timothy and Janine standing there.  Sadness in their faces.

“Can I please say goodbye to them?” I asked Armand as he came out of the car to fetch my luggage.

“Quick.  We are already behind schedule.” Armand stated, getting into the car again.

Running to the house, I jumped on Timothy.  Hugging him as hard as I could.

“I love you.” he told me as he held on to me tight.

“I love you too.” I told him, kissing his cheek.

“I’m gonna miss you.” Janine stated sincerely.

“I’m gonna miss you too.” I told her, letting go of Timothy and pulling her into a hug.  “You were like family to me since the moment I met you.  Please take care of this asshole for me.”

    “I promise I will.”

    Reluctantly, they let me go.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

We arrived.  And the sight was just breath taking.  We were standing at the very edge of a huge tall cliff.  From there I could practically see the world.  To my right, were the sea met land.  To my left where the mountains touched the sky.  Looking over my shoulder at Armand, I seriously wonder if this was the right place.

    “Melanie.” Erick called out.

Overwhelmed by happiness, I ran into his arms, hugging him as if my life depended on it.

“Melanie.” he said again, pulling me away from him.  “I have something to ask you.” he added kneeling before me.

Armand smiling as he discreetly came to stand closer.

“I know that ever since I met you, your life has become complicated.  One thing after another.  One thing a top of another.  But even with all of this, our bond only grows stronger.  Making us need one another like a fish needs water to survive.  I need you like birds need wind to fly.  Will you do me the honor of marrying me?”
