CHAPTER TWENTY - OKAY, IT’S A DATE
Erick’s POV
“You ready?” I asked raising my water gun.
“I am so gonna beat you.” Melanie stated laughing, raising her gun as well.
And when the alarm went of, we both began to shoot water into the clowns mouth. Filling up the bubble on its head.
Taking a peek over my shoulder, I found Melanie concentrating on her shooting. Unable to resist myself, I turned the water gun over to her, wetting her, as the alarm went off. Announcing that she’d won.
Trying to cover herself, she forgot about the gun, moving it about and wetting everyone around us. An annoyed and wet worker quickly handing her a teddy bear and taking the gun from her.
“Sorry.” she stated sincerely, grabbing on to the teddy bear for dear life.
Standing from the stool I was sitting, I helped a giggling Melanie do the same as she refused to hand over the bear.
Holding on to her hand, we began to walk down the boardwalk, like two giggling teenage sweethearts.
“Told you this was a date.”
“Okay, fine. It’s a date.”
It had been a whole week from our first date and everything just seemed to be going smoothly. She was actually starting to open up to me. Little by little, she allowed me to get closer to her. “Erick. Thanks so much. You have no idea how much fun I’m having.” she stated pulling me away from my thoughts.
“I’m happy your having fun.”
“I always wanted to go to a fair. But my adoptive parents couldn’t afford to take us all.”
“You should know by now that if there is anything you want, you only need to ask.”
“I know.” she said facing me, before turning to face the ground.
By the look in her eyes, I knew she had something on her mind. “What is it?” I asked trying to keep her from walking.
“Well, I’ve never been to the beach at night… I was…”
Without letting her finish, I pulled her off the boardwalk and into the sand. There we took our shoes off, and headed for the shore. Silent, hand in hand.
Armand had been right. Courting her, was the best way to get her trust. Since the restaurant, we’d been talking regularly, reading and acting out scenes from different books. Watching movies together and even sleeping in the same bed.
Letting go off my hand, she ran to the shore and placed her feet on the water. Then ran back to me full of laughter.
“It’s super cold.”
Watching her like this, so relaxed, so comfortable, so full of life, I couldn’t help but pull her to me, squeezing the poor teddy bear between us, as I looked down into her beautiful brown eyes.
“I’m sorry. I know I said I’d wait, but I must…” Placing my hand on the back of her head I pulled her to me, kissing her deeply.
MELANIES POV
Looking into Erick’s honey colored eyes as he pulled away for air, I couldn’t bring myself to believe that he’d kissed me like his life depended on it. No one had ever kissed me with such passion. With such need.
