CHAPTER  TWENTY EIGHT - THE EXPERIMENT

Melanie’s POV

Waking up in an unfamiliar room, I could at least be grateful at the fact that I didn’t have somebody trying to feed off me.  Even if the room itself smelled of death.

“Welcome back sleepy head.” Zack stated, pulling a chair closer to me, which he used to sit on.

“Where am I?  What have you done?  Where’s Michael?” I asked in a rush, feeling beyond exhausted.

“There, there.  One question at a time.” Zack stated smiling, caressing my face.

“Were am I?” I asked, moving my face away from his hand.

“Feisty.  I like it.” he confessed, taking a small briefcase from under the bed and placing it on top of my stomach.   “Your safe.  For now.”

“Where am I?” I asked again, ignoring the fact that he was pulling the briefcase open.

“You’re in my lab.” he answered, taking out a syringe and a small bottle of a green liquid.

“Where’s Michael?” I asked concerned.  Michael had been hurt and it was all my fault.

Damn dentistry.  All my life I thought being a dentist would be a safe job and here I am, kidnapped for the second time.

“A dentist?  That’s really interesting.” Zack commented as if reading my thoughts were the most natural thing to do.  Filling up the syringe with the colored liquid.  “Michael’s okay.  He’s actually progressed to face two of my experiment.  You’ll be able to see him in a couple of hours.” he continue, taking my arm, and pushing the syringe into me without any warning.

I could feel the liquid making progress thru my arm.  It was hot, making my veins feel like lava was running thru them.

And as soon as he pulled the syringe away, I fell unconscious again.

“Wake up, sleepy head.  I promised you, you could see Michael.” Zack stated, whispering at my ear.

Wanting to see with my own eyes that Michael was okay, I struggled to get up from the bed.

“Easy.  Your body is just getting acquainted with the serum.” Zack stated, catching me as I lost my balance.

Hating myself and with no other choice, I found myself holding on to him as we headed out my room.

“What did you inject me with?” I asked concerned, concentrating on putting one foot in front of the other.

“You’ll see soon enough.”  he answered, pushing a set of huge doors open.

Obediently, I followed him in and sat on the chair he told me to sit.

Suddenly the room went dark, and what I’d thought was a wall instantly lit up.

On the other side was Michael, curled into a ball on the floor.  Scratches and bite marks covering his body.

“What have you done to him?” I asked turning to face Zack.

“Nothing.  He did that to himself.  Look and learn.” he stated with complete fascination as a door was suddenly open on the other side and an old man was pushed inside.

Not understanding what was going on, I sat up a little on the chair.  From where I sat, I saw Michael uncurl and start pacing the room.

I wasn’t certain, but I could see both, Michaels lips and the old mans lip move.  They were having a conversation.  Michael raising his hand pushing the man away.  But as the man continued to approach Michael with concern, Michael hit the old man.  Throwing him to the ground and jumping on top of him.  Without a word or a second look, Michael bit into the old mans neck.

Shocked and horrified at what I was being a witness to, I jumped from my chair and began to hit the wall.  Screaming and ordering Michael to stop.

“SHH” Zack said by my hear, pulling both my hands away from the wall.

“What have you done to him?” I asked, tears running down my face as I turned to face him.

“The same I have done to you.” Zack stated as if it was nothing.

“What do you mean?” I asked baffled, unable to understand what he was saying, turning to face Michael again.

He was biting into and ripping at the old mans neck.

“The injection I gave you.  The green serum.  Its something I’ve been working on for quite sometime.  It’s a new generation of the Nanos.” Zack stated proudly.

    “What?  You can’t…. Its… ” I stuttered.

“I can and I did.   Two other scientist and I were the creators of the first wave of Nanos.  It was my concept, so I created the Immortals.” he stated, looking at me with pride.

“Are you crazy?” I asked looking into his insane eyes.

“No my dear.” he said sitting back on his chair.

Looking back at Michael, I found fear eating at me.  I was soon going to turn into that.  A monster.

The old man laid dead on the ground, while Michael continued to  feed off him.

“What have you turn us into?” I asked sobbing,

    “My new creation.  NO FANGERS.”
