CHAPTER SEVENTEEN - SURPRISE

“So, aren’t you going to tell me how last night went?” Armand asked, clearly curious.

“It went very well.” I found myself smiling as I said it.   “We talked a bit over dinner and on our way home.  And we ended up eating desert in bed.”

“Dessert in bed.” Armand repeated with mischief.

“Just desert.” I said smiling, as I clearly remembered the way she had jumped to her makeshift bed on the  floor, when I tried to kiss her.

“And what do you plan to do with her today?”

“We decided to stay in.  There’s a movie on tv that she wanted to see.”

    “How convenient.”

    “What’s convenient?”

“Erick.  Today was her wedding day.”

    “Her what?”

“Yeah.  I found her crying this morning.  That’s why I told Janine to take her out to the gardens.”

“I can’t believe she could still have feelings for that piece of shit.  I should have killed him when I had the chance.” I blurted out before I could stop myself.

“Give her time.  They’d been together for almost ten years.  You can’t just erase her feelings.  They fade with time.”

“I hope you are right.  I really hope you are right.”

Melanie’s POV

Never in my life, did the thought of me someday living in a house full of vampire, crossed my mind.  And after spending practically two weeks with them, the thought didn’t seem too bad.  There was a loyalty and respect among immortals that I both envied and admired.  No mortal I’d met, would do the things these guys did for each other.  They were all a big family.  They made me feel right at home.

“So, what do you think of the gardens?” Janine asked concerned.

“It’s beautiful.” I confessed honestly.  Taking in the sight before me.

“I’m glad you like.  Janine has worked her ass off.”  a very  familiar voice said from somewhere behind me.

Turning, I was instantly surrender speechless as I looked into the eyes of the last person I thought I’d ever see.  “Timothy?”

“Yes, Mel.  It’s me.” he stated pulling me into a tight hug.

Hugging him back as hard as I could.  I could feel a few tears fall down my face.

“My God, Timothy.” I said pulling him away, making sure that he was real.

Laughing, he did a 360.  “Long time no see sis.”

That comment alone, brought back the memories of how I’d betrayed my family, for the love of a man.  A man that never deserved me.  My spirits falling as I looked at him.

    “I’m so sorry.  I …”

“The past is in the past.  Leave it there.” he commanded, pulling me in for another hug.  “The family has been searching for you, for years.” he added letting me go.

    “Really?”

    “Yes.  We all have.”

    “We?”

“Yes.  Ma, Dad, Thais, Ray, John, me.”

“I guess you know each other.” Janine stated smiling, obviously wanting her presence to be acknowledge.

“Yes.” I said looking back at her.  “We haven’t seen each other since I was what… eighteen?” I asked Timothy for confirmation.

“More or less.” he answered honestly.

“Wait a minutes. What are you doing here?” I asked Timothy, completely taken by surprise.

    “Well, I work here.”

“Here?  I thought you were a police officer.”

“Am.  At least until I Turn.”

    “Turn?  Into an immortal?”

“What else will I be turning into?  A frog?”

“Don’t be an ass.” I said hitting him on the shoulder.

“Don’t ask stupid questions.” he said pulling on my hair.

This was the part of him I missed the most.   His ability to bug the hell out of me.

“Wait, your Erick’s mate?” now it was his turn to be shocked.

    “Well, that’s what he says.  I …”

“This is perfect!” he exclaimed, facing Janine, before walking off.

“What’s perfect?” I yelled after him.

“He was afraid, that when he turned, he would loose contact with all of his family.  But now, when you turn, you will forever be his sister.” Janine stated, smiling.

    Oh God.  Was I ready?
