CHAPTER SIX - EXCUSES

Dragging, my still aching body out of the bathroom, I pulled my cell phone out with me as I went to sit in the balcony.  Dialing the number to my office.  Wondering what excuse I would give Ellie for not coming in to work today.      I clearly couldn’t tell Ellie I wasn’t coming in because Michael had beaten me into a pulp.  This was the path that I had chosen to live and this was the path I was going to take to the end.
“Better Smile Dentistry.  What can we do for you?” Ellie answered on the fourth ring.
“Oh God Ellie,  I hadn’t realize how stupid the welcoming sounded over the phone.” I stated sincerely, shoving my pain and hurt a side,  and pushing my fun and loving personality afloat.
That clearly made Ellie laugh, as I heard her try to stifle a  giggle.
“I’m calling to let you know that I wont be coming in today.  Being a long weekend and all, me and Michael made last minutes plan to spend time with each other.”
“That’s great.  It will help you make a decision.” Ellie stated clearly hopeful.
“Yeah.  Anyways, I want you to call the patients and let them know what’s going on.  And once you finish, I want you to go home with your baby.”
“Yes Sir, Mame.” Ellie stated, making me smile for real as I could clearly see her saluting.  “Have a good weekend.” I wished her sincerely.
“You too.” Ellie said hanging up.
Watching the afternoon, erase itself in my sight, I breathed in deeply, wishing that Michael never returned.

Erick’s POV
“What do you mean the Dr. is not coming in today?” I asked completely baffled and worried.  “I need to see her.”
    “Sir, she…”
Not wanting to be lied to, I slipped into Ellie’s mind.  This time, taking my time, searching for the answers I needed.
Melanie had excused herself by saying she was going on a trip with her fiancé, Michael.  Just by the name, I already detested the man.  Looking further into her mind, I was able to see the conversation they had the night before.  Just before I had visit the office.  Armand was right to say she didn’t love him.  She had her doubts.
Looking even more further into her mind, I found Melanie’s address.  This was just perfect.  Erasing my presence from Ellie’s mind, I practically ran outside the building and jumped into my car.
